I know it's a long shot "pun intended", but does anyone have a .243/6mm mold for a bullet weight of around 95gr they would be willing to part with?
A while back, I was kindly handed a bunch of cast 95gr bullets that had been lubed/sized.
I carefully developed a reduced load that shoots these well using a suitable, very fast powder without any fouling issues whatsoever.
The problem I've now got is that supplies are running short and cast .243/6mm bullets are like rocking horse.... What you can purchase online have such a long lead time.
I therefore would like to delve further down the rabbit hole and possibly have a go at making my own.
“Why bother with a cast .243 reduced load?” Simple. Im a member at a local indoor range where I mostly use sub‑12 ft·lb air rifle and .22LR. Club rules insist on lead only projectiles and limit energy/velocity. My usual .243 setup with its 75 gr Sierra Blitzking load doing 3450 ft/s is out of the question.
Running a reduced cast load lets me keep the rifle familiar and spend more time on technique, trigger control ect. than I otherwise would have. This way, when Charlie crosses my path, the rifle doesn't feel alien, giving me full confidence that I'm doing my best when it counts.
Also, not to be underestimated, it’s just good bloody fun.
Many thanks
