.243 powder choice

Any recomendations on a powder choice for a 70grn Nosler bt in .243?
I have some imr and Hodgdon 4350 but the data i can find recommends this for 85grns and upwards. Worth a try or better powders out there for that bullet weight?

I am perhaps a bit biased as its all I can get locally, but I've had good success with the Reload Swiss series of powders.

I've shot RS50 and RS52 in .308 and they perform well.

I gather their .243 powder is RS70 and they have load data for everything from 55gn to 105gn bullets.

Max load for 70gn bullets apparently gives 3445ft/s.

May be worth a look if you can get it?

Hodgdon Hornaby superformance powder is good in .243 but it's quite a dirty powder, if I was to change powders I would look at Swiss 60.

Hi

I have had really good groups with Vhit N160 and that Nosler head but it was v destructive on roe. Worth a try if you can source it in your area.

In my Tikka m595 the best powder is Varget behind the sierra 85gn gameking, also happens to be Noslers recommended powder for 70gn BT's, I'd try that personally.

I have used N140 with 70 grain NBTs for twenty or more years but have recently tried N150, which is looking VERY promising.

Vhit N 160, N560, Vect Tub 5000, Tub 7000 all work very well dependent on bullet weight, barrel length and twist. I tried using Swiss and Lovex and didn't get on with either in 243.

For the last 10 years N140. In 308 RS 52. Both readily available and cheaper than American powders.

Spiker.

I know it's not the 70 grain but I have used IMR4350 with 85 grain Sierra GK with great results. Killing performance is superb and accuracy has been good out to 500m.

Varget is what I use for 70gr BT in .243. Other options worth looking at are N140, N150,RL15 and RL17.

N160, Varget or RL15. RL15 is the cheapest and I get comparable accuracy to the expensive N160 for rounds under 75gr. But I buy N160 for my 100gr so don't end up with too many tubs of powder.

90gr Scenar in front of 34.2gr N140. Its a spicey load at around 3150 fps that they have since removed from the Viht. manual. I reloaded a few hundred like this in 2014 and ran them through my Tikka T3 without any issue, super flat, group about 1.5" at 100y ...the fireball is a bit off putting though.
