270 Barrel length

I am in the market for a .270 rifle but what barrel length is best suited to this calibre 20-24 Tec
Thanks

One of mine is 23" and use with a mod, the other 24" and without.

Two friends of mine have 20" T3s, and those work well also (modded).

I had a Mannlicher with a 20" barrel, no problems with accuracy but noticeable make that very noticeable, muzzle flash.
Currently using one with a 24" tube, no problems at all.

I have 22" one it shoots well. I get a dirty crown which I think is unburnt powder. I have a 20" 6.5x47L and it is always as clean as a whistle. Short barrelled rifles are lighter and quicker to handle

I have one with a 20" barrel as said a good muzzle flash even with mod. I am probably losing 150 fps with the shorter barrel but it works well on all deer big or small.
If I was starting again I would look at 22 - 24" barrel.

Having said all that I do like the short rifle, really nice to handle.

At least 22 inch, 24 is better for heavier pills & slower powders. The 270 win will work with shorter barrels, but its not doing its best work.

I have 20, 22, and 24. The 24 is perfect, but 22 works very well, not much MV loss, a much lighter rifle, especially with just its iron sights zeroed at 200 yards.

The smaller bore on a .30-06 size case means slower powders work best, but no law says you have to make every bullet run at maximum velocity. Even a powder like 4350 will push a 130-gr out of my 20-inch Mannlicher at 2,950 fps, with a normal load. Muzzle blast is noticeably greater on a 20-inch than on a 24-inch barrel.

A lot of manufacturers only do 22 or optional 20 size nowdays. 24 are not so common anymore. Some factory rifles with 24 barrels can still be found or you can go custom.

Correct but Sako's stock is shorter than Blaser's... If both stocks would be the same length, Sako with 20 barrel would be longer than Blaser with standard barrel.

If you can don’t go less than 24ins, it’s a big case with a full load of slow burning powder, you need a barrel to get it burnt, anything less then it won’t be running as a 270 should.

So if a short 20 inch barrel dosn't work why do manufacturers make them. Sure there is an optimal length but anything from 20 to 24 plus inches is going to kill anything put infront of it in the UK.

I have a 20 inch Stutzen and nothing has so far walked away from it and lovely to carry. Recoil I have only found a problem when zeroing. On a live targets you just kind of zone out to it.
