Hi guys, what's your thoughts on the sako 90 finnlight barrel. I know it's thin and lighter but what is the life expectancy of it in comparison to heavy barrel..........does anyone on here use a 90 finnlight in 270 and if so how don't it feel if you're using it for deer management can it handle multiple shots with little wear

I have a S90 in 30.06 and it gets hot after 10 rounds. Not able to touch hot. Blurry mirage hot so you cant even see the target till a breeze clears it..
It's 569mm long, fluted and fairly light contour - 15x1 thread at the muzzle - probably identical to whats on the Finnlite.
Nobody except Sako will know at this stage how long they last.

The only reason it might have a shorter life is if you regularly fire long strings of shots, as it’ll get hotter quicker and shooting on an already hot barrel will wear it faster than the same number of shots on a cool barrel.

For ‘normal’ stalking, I very much doubt it will make a difference.

Probably the hardest to shoot rifle that Iv ever used. A client of mine had one and couldn’t get it under 1.5moa, after a lot of trying I put it down to the recoil rather than the gun actually being inaccurate. I shoot .300 win, 7 rem and have shot a bit of .416 rugby and .577, that Sako .270 was the most unpleasant to shoot rifle Iv ever used. Also shot plenty of other .270s which are normally pretty pleasant

I have got to agree regarding the accuracy you mention. But, I'm not sure I'd blame it on the recoil. I'd shot 30.06 for years without any issues with recoil shooting up to 200 Acubond (but preferably 150's)
I've gone through £400 worth of factory rounds in an attempt to fine something it liked, none better that as you say 1.5 moa..
Hopefully everything crossed I've loaded 168 TTSX that seem pretty good.
I'm seriously considering selling and have 1 built.

I have a 90 Adventure in 30-06. She shot sub MOA with factory, but 150gr Virtus Merlin delivered a single ragged hole.

Used for half a dozen stalks, back to range (Paul Hill at Corinium) to check zero and an inch low and left and after re-zero, groups got wider and wider.

Range owner and I scratched our heads until he disappeared and returned with a torque wrench.

Properly torqued stock screws and back to just over single ragged hole.

Paul commented that Sako have sadly been infamous for this issue ever since the 85.

Check your stock screws.

I ran out of option's to check.
Loose stock screws will still be loose stock screws regardless of bullets used. 👍

What torque were you using ?

Mine is the carbon stock and on 45 in.lb.
Over a period of 6 months and 160 rounds the 5 shot MPI wanderd about 1cm each way (at 100m), which is likely just random variation due to the small number of shots per group.
It did group well with Sako factory ammo, about 20mm using a 12x scope, but lately has struggled. Thanks for the suggestion; I'll retorque them.
