The T3X does not have CRF and as for the magazine issue my only experience was an anecdote from a pro stalker who lost a magazine leaning across a water trough and the magazine release catch was caught leaving the magazine to go for a swim. The 85 magazine needs a little pressure for the release catch to work.

Top loading is totally overrated. The moment you top load you are out of battery vs changing to a second fuller mag. I way prefer the option of AICS mags in 3,4,5,8,10 shot options. My favourite being the five shot as my rifles balance around the front end of the mag and especially the polymer mag makes for a good holding point when carrying. The CRF also seems to be overrated, one does not really notice the difference except that some CRF don't like to feed a round that is dropped in from the top. Took me a full days work to change my Mauser to work as CRF as well as push feed without damaging the extractor claw. With aics mags the mag releases the cartridge only when a part is in the chamber, no real issue of cartridge falling out. Not often that one shoots a rifle upside down anyway.
I had an 85 here recently that I bedded with Tikka lug, thought the idea of the mag release is quite safe but also awkward. Some mag release levers are too long or big and can release by themselves. Stronger spring and shorter levers can help.
The sako 90 has a different bedding arrangement vs 85 in the carbon stock, no more L plate? Just got a stock in to repair without the rifle so not 100% sure.

I have a sako 90 adventure (recent purchase) it is a step up from the 75/85, stainless, cerocoated action and barrel for added corrosion resistance. The breach is opened wider to allow ease of top loading, has a built in picatinny rail, mags are the same as the 85 double stacked and stainless. And it quite light.
Buttery smoot action.
1/4 MOA out the box with hornady precision hunter 143gr eld x

I added 2x QD sling swivels and a spartan classic adapter to the stock.

One major issue I've had is that the stock CANNOT! be cerocoated as I've now found out the hard way, it is really heat sensitive to the point that it has now warped, even though the oven was on a low Hest it still warped so I wouldn't recommend taking this rifle to Africa As it will probably melt FML.

Currently trying to find someone with the time and skill to inlet a blank inlet pse stock for it as I've had no response from sako on this(SHOCK)

One of the reasons I would change a 75 is to get an adjustable PSE stock. PSE seemed to think it wasn’t possible because of the fit of the double stack magazine? They basically said to me a blank wouldn’t work.


If you’ve got any luck with this let me know as I’d be v tempted!

I've been told that it can be done it's just finding someone that has the time/skill to be able to do it, I've been looking and if I find someone I'll let you know.

I think pse are missing an opportunity not making stocks for Sako actions, a lot of people use them and make custom builds from them but I think only macmillan did stocks for Sako 75/85.
 
The 85 bedding block cantilevers and can be disruptive to accuracy / consistancy

This is easily resolved by using a T3 recoil lug bedded into the 85 stock

Once the cantilever block is removed they are usually consistent and accurate


I’d also agree that the 85 offers an advantage over the 75 in the respect of magazine security

I used to own an 85 in 25-06, and unfortunately with a scope mounted at any usable height to allow good cheek weld, it suffered from poor ejection and would leave cases in the action.
It seems to be isolated to the 85s in actions longer than ‘S’ and doesn’t affect all of them. Potentially luck of the draw but it’s definitely a thing.

I own a 75 now which suffers no such issue. Although admittedly that’s an action 3 so not a long action.

It definitely seems like the extractor / ejector setup on the 90 looks to be an improvement. Along with the one that has the Finnlight 2 adjustable stock. Mind you it seems you pay a premium for a 90.

A stainless T3 in a PSE is a hell of a work tool and hard to beat cost wise for such a capable setup. I used one for a long time and had no issues, although the 75 is a nicer action to own, although that’s hard to quantify and is purely a perception.

This is the number one benefit of being able to top load.

Also being able to top up when driven shooting knowing you can quickly get a shot off if needs to without faffing around with a magazine in your hands.

The single stack mag is a real pita when you are doing the un-loading thing multiple times a night
 
The scope on my 85 has lots of little chips out of the coating on the tube due to case ejection, it's a 270. I picked up 2 90's a few weeks ago. The adventure and a quest. The shape of the stock on the quest just felt perfect for my trigger hand

Cerakoted T3x, PSE Evolution stock, 20” barrel and 5 shot Tikka plastic mag (extended one for longer COAL works well for my choice of 130gn TTSX). Not a problem ejecting rounds, very easy to do in a controlled way and not dropped one yet.

I like it a lot.

I had a 75 previously. Nice action, didn’t like the stock and that was the reason I finally sold it. Shame as I’d have dropped it into a PSE in a heartbeat if the option had been there.

Stop because I’ve a real itch for the quest but the price is steep. I think I could do a pse and a barrel on a T3 for about .. 2 1/2k?

Love it 😂. Thats pretty much exactly what I’d be after. .270 again? The stock on the 75 is the only issue I have . Bit too low for a 56x objective,(for me). My fault. I think if I ever changed I’d go for a 50x but maybe the adjustable cheek piece removes any issue
