.270 flinch--itus

I have an unmoderated bsa cf2 in 270.

It’s pretty good kick wise but it’s old school weight and I have to say I’ve never tried shooting it off sticks. It’s nice to shoot prone or seated off a pad.

I bet if that deer was real not a target you’d have shot it dead and not even noticed you pulled the trigger!

I conclude i have contracted flinchitus
Rule number one if you think that you are flinching is to force a couple of ear plugs in correctly. and then over the top add good quality ear muffs.
Half of the problem is that many people are gun shy and fear the bang coming the tighter the trigger gets.

I really don't get the not holding the forend. The barrel flip from my .30-06 would be ridiculous without it.
Yes. Standing and shooting over a sofa cushion placed a ute bonnet with any of the .300`s up I find it is necessary to have a firm grip of the forend...any bloody calibre actually. This bloke got it right.

The Maharajah of Cooch Behar who remarked that recoil is insignificant when there is a tiger on the head of your elephant during a hunt. This implies that the fear of the tiger, or the presence of the tiger itself, is a greater concern than the recoil of a firearm

Good ear protection, most flinch stems from the noise more than anything to do with recoil.
As suggested don't bloody lie down or shoot from a bench as though you were in a competition with a heavy low recoiling rifle. Shoot it more erect and as suggested hand under fore end.

There is no way on God's earth I would fit a mod to circumnavigate bad shooting drill!
This is meant as constructive criticism.

This is the answer. Noise equals perceived recoil. Put good hearing protection and try again. If you can manage a 12 gauge recoil without any drama a 270 will be no problem.

After forgetting i had removed the scope and then refitted it into rings months back i took the .270 out and had this particularly unimpressive result!! first shot was above the back, no worries i thought its needing adjusted --so adjusted scope to fix and had the next 3 tidy shots but then ooooh dear, out at 100 yards ,well, see piccy.:rolleyes:I have the 8x56 schmitt bender on so pinpoint at 100 is not expected but holy lederhosen batman this was baaad.I conclude i have contracted flinchitus .Either that or my scope is naff. Anyways i posted so those of us that are honest enough to admit we are not demigods know it alls can have a laugh at my expense and perhaps realise.when they browse for advice on bad groupings its not just them that fluffs it . p.s unmoderated monarch and the noisiest bugger on planet earth

Yeah. With a .270 you ain't seeing sh1t once that bullet starts moving 🤣🤣🤣
Ah, but when you open your eyes again there's always a dead deer in front of you!

I have a BSA CF2 in .270. Very similar in style/weight etc to your rifle.

I don’t suffer from flinching but can definitely suffer from overthinking when I’m trying to zero. It’s like getting 2 touching shots and not wanting make a mess of the group with the 3rd.

When I’m shooting deer I never consider or register the recoil, or the noise.
Exactly this^^^

@Anser anser, I have PM'd you.
If you cut that rifle, I'm cutting your membership of the .270 owners club from premium to just plain ordinary.

Im of out tomorrow with the 243. But i shall try again with the 270 before opting to get it cut ----with more than ample ear protection and a sound grip on the old gal for a few at the 100 yards --see if that helps
