.284 non lead bullet/load recommendations

Just developed a load for 7x64 with RS60 and Hornady GMX 139gr. Now looks like Hornady have disconinued the GMX. I am going to try the Peregrine VLR4 140gr next.

Scrummy

this is where you and i maybe differ, i dont shoot for fun, punch paper or gongs, my rifle is there to do a job.

3 shots to zero and on with the job.

We have to be prepared for the inevitable cost increases!

At over £5 a pop I’ll putter a bit, but as long as the carcasses still covers the ammunition, I’ll keep going.
There that 'I'm alright Jack' attitude again Lee, doesn't do you any favours, next you'll be telling us people don't need to practice like another member recently!!

May not be a bad thing, they had a reputation for being hard with poor expansion.

Yew tree are worth a go, working okay in my .280 (for lead free  )

But thats me i am afraid!

You do what you need to do and I’ll do what i need to so, simple as.

I am not telling anyone not to practice, i am just saying what I personally do, i fully understand my brazen attitude is not to everyone’s liking, but thats life!

If punching gongs and paper @ 300 floats your boat, crack on me old cocker, just don't moan about the cost of it.

My personal stalking justifies its self, as soon as it doesn’t time to moth ball the the rifle.

That’s your choice, and wasn’t you i was referring to about practice. The fact is the more people that shoot in all disciplines the more safe the sport as a whole is. Pricing people out of it means the sport is less safe.

You know that and just don’t give a sh*t, but at least you’re honest about it.

As for moaning about the cost, I’ve got enough, bought cheaply enough that I won’t be moaning any time soon.

I gave up trying to please people a long time ago, best policy is be straight talking, regardless if people want to hear it or not!

9 out of 10 times people only want to hear What they want to especially when comes to this copper debate that keeps rumbling on.

It’s not about trying to please people it’s about caring about your sport in the wider sense. You don’t fair enough, just as well plenty of others do.

There are so many blinkered people on this forum!

Deer stalking should not be classed as a sport!

This is where we get hung by the anti’s, deerstalking should be treated as management, therefore it is a job and a job that needs doing!

Sport you do for fun sport is playing golf kicking a ball round a pitch playing bowls, the killing of any animal should not be done for fun it should be done for necessary management this is where we get kicked in the horlicks every time.

You cannot defend killing as a sport, you are pizzing in the wind and getting wet legs if you do!

Management on the other hand is treated as an essential job you can justify it.

Until everybody treats it as management and not sport the whole industry is up the Swanee without a paddle

Pitting yourself against another animal is sport, it’s one of the oldest sports pre-dating everything you have listed above.

It’s nothing to be ashamed of!

100 years ago maybe, now most certainly not!

The great white hunter days are long gone!

There is no reason why it cannot be classified as both a sport and a neccessary management practise.

I see no conflict in classing deer stalking as a sport. Large management / reduction culls undertaken professionally are another matter. There is, however, room for both within the larger congregation of our church...

You realise I am saying 'the sport' as a whole so that includes pest control, predator control, deer control, game shooting, clay shooting, target shooting & people plinking in the garden with an air rifle.

You don't give a crap about any of it or defending the sport so why are you getting so indignant about the word used to describe it?

Surely you should be calling yourself a deer manager  doing deer control and not using the term deer stalking, which in itself intimates a certain amount of skill and challenge akin to a sport.

May I suggest that this is an important topic, but a completely different one from the one at hand, and worthy of a new thread? I'd gladly contribute, but I just wanted to talk about lead-free loads in this one and don't want to take it off on a tangent.

I've just taken delivery of one box each of Fox Classic Hunter bullets in 130gr and 145gr for my 7mm08 and 7x65R respectively, so looking forward to making some test loads of finding an opportunity to try them out at the range over the summer. 7mm08 with N140 is straightforward, 7x65R with N550, a bit less so, but something in the range of 44-49gr I should think.

Quick load is very handy as a guide for obscure stuff.

I am getting very good results in my 7x64 with Fox 130gr over RS60.
