.284 non lead bullet/load recommendations

I am getting very good results in my 7x64 with Fox 130gr over RS60.
I'm currently using a 150gr lead bullet which works fine. I thought 130gr may be a bit light given the nature of the round, so that's why I went for 145gr. I mean it's quite a punchy round, so it should be perfectly in its comfort zone with a slightly lighter lead free bullet. That's my thinking anyway, we shall see. If I can extract the case that I have jammed into the resizing die...

I have the kit to extract that ( in Brentford) if you need it. It's a mistake I've made and quite satisfying to get it out.

I've just taken delivery of one box each of Fox Classic Hunter bullets in 130gr and 145gr for my 7mm08 and 7x65R respectively, so looking forward to making some test loads of finding an opportunity to try them out at the range over the summer. 7mm08 with N140 is straightforward, 7x65R with N550, a bit less so, but something in the range of 44-49gr I should think.
Also Gordon's reloading tool can help.

May not be a bad thing, they had a reputation for being hard with poor expansion.

Yew tree are worth a go, working okay in my .280 (for lead free  )
Thanks. I might order some 140gr Peregrine to start Load Dev as I'm sure I'll need the load at some point. Still got a few 160gr Sierra Gameking SBT which do work well to use when I can.

Hi chaps,

What with game dealers only taking non lead shot deer, I’m looking for some load data or at least starting point for .284 using non lead.

I’m thinking in the 120-140ish grain weight. I could find data for American powders etc but I have only Viht N133, N140 and N160 on hand. Pointers for N160 in particular would be good as I seem to have accrued quite a few kilos of it!

I had been thinking Barnes but I’m open to other options.

Many thanks
Joe
Hi Joe
I’ve loaded some Virtus 120g osprey bullets in the 7mm rem mag, I use N160 and shoot extremely well, on paper.

I’ve been shooting the 101 gr Virtus in the creedmoor for a couple of years now, have shot in excess of 150 deer with them, I can’t speak highly enough.

I just hope the rem mag performs the same, I’m sure it will, and obviously fairly close to your 284 in performance.

👍🏻

Yew tree 7mm, looking forward to the tipped version coming out.

Although had a few bud’s around for a bbq last night, one being a professor of metallurgy at Swansea, apparently Ali in contact with copper for any period of time is not a good idea
Ali baba? or aluminium?
