ThisYou can use a 30-06 for everything. I grew up around people who hada 12 ga, a 22, and a 30-06. That was it.~Muir
No it was repealed some five years ago in respect of the WWI and WWII era calibres. The prohibition still however remains for some "weapons capable of chambering ammunition designed for military weapons" but no longer for .30/06, .303 British, 7.92mm Mauser and that cohort of cartridges only for AFAIK 7.62x39 and I think 5.56mm NATO.Does the French prohibition still apply? If so, and you're likely to shoot there, I'd get a shiny new 7x64.
If not, .30-06 all the way. I've never had one, but I certainly would now we're in the foothill of the lead-free mountains.
Same here if push comes to shove. You can use a 30-06 for everything. I grew up around people who hada 12 ga, a 22, and a 30-06. That was it.~Muir

I am afraid that you are miss informed. 30-06 can be found available on just about every continent. It truly is a versatile cartridge that is popular for many species of quarry. You can shoot everything here and in Europe quarry wise. Good for North America and for a vast majority of the animals in Africa too.I would go .308, better ammo availability and inside 200 it will perform admirably.
It's not the most exciting choice but it is a do all calibre?
That said the 30-06 is a great calibre, you won't go wrong either way!
