30-06 for everything. Talk me out of it.

No it was repealed some five years ago in respect of the WWI and WWII era calibres. The prohibition still however remains for some "weapons capable of chambering ammunition designed for military weapons" but no longer for .30/06, .303 British, 7.92mm Mauser and that cohort of cartridges only for AFAIK 7.62x39 and I think 5.56mm NATO.
Same here if push comes to shove.

I ‘temporarily’ switched to a 30-06 barrel and 150g factory sako super hammerheads from my 6.5x55 when I decided to do back to the drawing board with home loading. That was 18months ago. I love the 30-06 and if it wasn’t for to crazy price I paid for Wilson dies and other crap I convinced myself I needed I’d probably never go back. Muntjac, roe, fallow, Sika and Red all agree they don’t suffer and someone who handles a fair few carcasses I can say the bullet damage is acceptable too.

Great calibre, bought a Bergara 30-06 a few years ago, it's my go to rifle.

As Townsend Whelen , a man who knew rifles better than most said , " a good 30/06 is never a mistake " . After using one in well over 20 rifles , over 40 plus years , I have to say I agree with him . Granted , the other cartridges mentioned in previous posts are very good rounds , but the 06 is probably one of the most versatile chamberings out there .

Take your ammo overseas, if possible, keep what you’ve got.
I’ve got a .308, no 30-06, but I couldn’t see any downside to getting one.

Got to be on of the most versatile of the 30 cals.
I am afraid that you are miss informed. 30-06 can be found available on just about every continent. It truly is a versatile cartridge that is popular for many species of quarry. You can shoot everything here and in Europe quarry wise. Good for North America and for a vast majority of the animals in Africa too.
I would not be too worried if my ammunition got lost in transit if I was using a 30-06. Other cartridges you can find yourself borrowing a rifle

I have an 222 in a Sako AI and 30-06 in a Brno M98 action.
Just because they look pretty and "fit" the size of the action.
With todays copper bullets, large calibers are not needed.
I have a SS short barrel 308 with suppressor as my new main hunting rifle.
Point and shoot to 300m.
If I constantly had abundant and cheap Moose size or dangerous animals to hunt I would use a 9,3x62.

With a .300 H&H, you are shooting a 3006 + P.
The 7 x 64 will do everything the 3006 can do ...
The 308 is down from the 3006 what the 300H & H is up.
If the problem is ammunition abroad, 308 is my vote.
Did Sellier and Bellot test on your 7 x 64?
In my rifle they group very well
