Factory:
Federal 150gr Powershok as a general purpose round. Cheap and effective, doesn't make too much of a hole, though can be a bit messy at shorter range if you hit a shoulder. Trajectory a bit like a brick.
Federal 150gr ballistic tip if I'm feeling fancy and might be shooting at slightly longer range. Very effective, cleaner carcasses than the soft points, somewhat flatter trajectory.
Home load:
168gr Hornady Eldm over 46.8gr of RS52. Extremely effective longer range round. A bit too savage for roe at close range, but very good on big fallow, red and sika.
However, I've shot all sorts of other .308 ammunition at roe and fallow, and I don't think there's really very much in it. At any even remotely sensible range, a .308 will emphatically kill both types of deer. The .308 is so common for a reason...
