.308 RL 15, Vhit N140 or CFE 223

This mornings effort with my .308 at 100 yards 41 grains of 140 with a 168 Sierra matchking
That is awesome, thanks for sharing.
I have gone with RL 15 for the 178gr Sierra Matchkings and V N140 with the 150gr Hornady Interlocks. Will conduct testing of my loads when on the range.
All F/L sized, crimped and good to go. Did a spread of 10 different powder weights for the 175gr, and 5 different loads for the V N140 (the difference from min to max load was quite small in comparison to the RL 15).

MV with that load?? it’s quite a lot less than I shoot 44gn at 2740fps

I'm still new to all this but happened to be looking at the Sierra data and thought it sounded anemic. Can't argue with results though. Love (and probably hate in equal measure...) how many variables are at play here...

Barrel length?

Another vote for VV N140 in 308 - this is 3 shots (bench@100m) with 44.5g N140 and Hornady 155 Amax (I have 400 stockpiled), with 30 thou jump. Velocity is a bit lower (~2450 fps) as it's used in a 20" Steyr CISM. This was a lucky find - the first load tried rather than the result of load development and haven't changed it since. Not sure how the ELD/X compare...
I will also try it in a Sauer 100- but the jump will be bigger as it is longer throated and these only just fit its mag length - although Amax are supposed to be less jump fussy! The squares in the picture are 1/2" (thin lines) and 1" (thick lines).

Excellent load I’m surprised 44.5gn only drives it that fast in mine it’s close to 2800fps seems a lot of drop even for a shorter barrel ?

TBH, I haven't chrono'd it for 10+yrs as I haven't changed it, having stumbled across a working formula, so going from memory, but am fairly sure that it was 24xxfps rather than 25xx or even 26xx. However, I do agree that it does seem a bit slow. A quick google suggests about 25fps loss per inch, so would expect ~2600/2650fps, but it worked, so not overly concerned. I will dust off the chrono when I get the chance.

When I lived in Europe and could easily source Vihtavuori powders I used N140 under Sierra GameKing 165gr HPBT in my .308. Used it on fallow, moose and wild boar. After rummaging around on the laptop I found an image of a three shot bench group from those days:

43.9gr but I don't know the MV as I didn't have a chrony then.

Today I use an Aussie powder, ADI AR2206H, which is claimed to be similar to N140, but with the Sierra ProHunter 150gr. Again a very accurate combination. MV=786m/s (2579fps)

Cheers
