Interested to hear from anyone who is using TTSX in their .308.
I am not a fan of compressed loads so....
I generally use N140 for my .308 and been very happy with it behind 150gr Speer SPBT running a MV of 2650fps. But now I am starting the move over to non-lead bullets with a plan to use 130gr TTSX. I am running the numbers through Quickload and it looks like I may struggle to get above 2600fps in my 20" barrel with 43.3gr of N140 if I want to stay sub 100% fill, which I do.
So starting to look at the alternatives.....
48gr of Ramshot TAC is sub 100% fill and looks likely to produce just over 2800fps.
or I could start looking at the 110gr TTSX?
45gr of N140 would then produce a sub 100% load with just over 2700fps MV
or,
using 50.6gr of TAC would still be sub 100% fill but be pushing just over 3000fps MV
I guess others on SD may be starting to look at the same numbers and thought it would be interesting to hear from those who have already moved over to non-lead and particularly those using TTSX.
Maybe the 110gr is too light for my purposes? I am shooting mainly Fallow and often big boys (Head/Neck and boiler room shots).
Maybe my dislike of compressed loads is unfounded and I should get over it? It just seems wrong to overfill the cases and I hate the sound of powder being crushed when seating the bullet.
Maybe I am worrying too much about speed? I am not someone who normally chases fast/hot rounds but I want the TTSX to open properly at ranges from 50m-250m
As a final disclaimer, the above numbers for TTSX are theoretical and taken from Quickload. I am not suggesting anyone uses them without following safe and proper reloading practices.
