Like I said in another thread the NRA has never supported ordinary shooters here in the UK. Col Blinky and crew are so far out of touch it's unreal.
The danger area is not long enough to contain bullets fired negligently into the sky, even from non-HME cartridges... as I understand it the restrictions are based on computer modelling ricochet risks from bullets skimming the target berms and when the .338 Lapua was run through this model alarm bells sounded. That's why civilian use of the .338 cal was banned by the MOD (notwithstanding the difference between a .338 Federal and a .338 Lapua!), but it would appear from the earlier post that this may have been modified now.
ridiculous isn't it
over 2400fps is not allowed with 250gr but pointing the rifle 10ft above the target/backstop to get it on the board at 600yds is!?!?

I know I'll sound like an a$$hole, but your firearms regs make my head hurt. They sound ridiculous IMHO

That too!as I understand it military personnel launched some 338 lapua rounds off range and they were found somewhere sensitive and that is why the stupid HME regs were introduced?
I have a rifle in the above calibre which was purchased for and used for bear hunting in North America. It seems a shame for it to lanquish in my cabinet unused and I was wondering if anyone has any personal experience of bullet weights suitable for highland red deer. Any advice would be appreciated.

Easy to see just how hemmed in Bisley ranges are here
well if you want my personal opinion I think bisley has had it's day, we need a national shooting centre more centrally located with a new NRA that will fight for all shooting sports , I personally think that the NRA has done too much harm to uk shooting sports over the years for people to forget and it really is archaic and run down there although I haven't been for ages or been a member since 'we don't know why anyone would want a semi auto rifle' episode. I'm sorry if this offends the bisley die hards but it's how I feel and so far I've seen nothing that goes any way to change my opinion.
not true , only the 338 lapua magnum is banned for use by civilians , any other 338 is fine (hme nonsense permitting)
read the actual range orders at the range , it usually specifies 8.6x70mm (338 lapua magnum)
it's a fag but I make everyone wait while I do the stupid hme check bewsher , 208 amax at 3250 out of the 300rum ! I only had the rifle built because of the stupid HME regs which effectively banned my 338 lap over night!
they could just believe me when I lie and say they are downloaded to just under the stupid HME regs if they wanted?(I know, i'm going to hell in a handcart)![]()

One also must remmebr that the Police have not only 338 Lapua chambered rifles but alos some if .50 Browning .............................................. now that truly is a frightening thought as they cannot cope with 9mm para safely.

to the more active members of the BSRC both past and present.Someone has filled your head with empty cases, .338 lap mag is available to anyone who has the money to use it ,it is an expensive weapon to use hence it is not widely used for deer in the uk ,it is also a bit on the heavy side for deer etc
I never thought I'd be defending the NRA since my views have been very much in line with those expressed earlier, but there are a few green shoots of change starting to appear. You will see AR15 clones appearing on the cover of the NRA magazine, the format of which has been modernised. The new chief executive is questioning why we have to put up with MoD range regulations when the actual safety areas are owned by Bisley and not the MoD (the adjacent MoD ranges are allowed to use them by the NRA). Also the "safe shooter qualification" is being questioned since it basically prevents any visitors using a firearm at Bisley. He's even making a point of getting away from Bisley regularly to keep in contact with shooting elsewhere.
No doubt this is being driven by money, the NRA finances are in a dire state and they need to make Bisley pay, so they are being forced to ditch the old guard and get in people who can actually run a profitable leisure facility.
Even the state of the men's toilet at the Elcho Hilton has improved a little. OK, so still no hot water, soap or paper towels, but less soggy mess all over the floor these days.
