410 slugs

So it is possible to got slugs on a ticket
May I ask for what reason have you said slugs ?

I have 12g slugs on mine. The original ‘good reason’ on application was for driven shooting overseas, however they are included under the single AOLQ condition for U.K. use for all firearms.

I have them on my FAC for HAD. .410 and 12g

Haven't had a use for them that .410 shot and 22LR or .308W have not been able to cope with.

Difficulty is buying/reloading for .410.

Dauntsey Guns listed a Hornady "Home Defence" cartridge which appeared to be quite versatile for slightly longer range HAD use than the bird shot...

But when I tried to buy a box it turned out their stock control was wrong... :(

410 slugs are not solid as suggested earlier by someone. They are only 1/4oz.
They are perfect for the job suggested by the op. Very often accuracy is minute of rabbit to 40-50yds
On a side note....I have never understood the UK's attitude to shotgun solid ammunition for hunting with. The whole world uses them successfully but in the UK they are for some very vague reason frowned upon!

probably because in the eyes of police it starts to expand the number of “rifle” owners into the only shotgun owners

A .410" firing a slug will be pretty much the same effect as a six inch revolver firing a .41" S & Magnum. Indeed with a good quality strong .410" shot pistol it'd probably be a lot less aggravation to go down that route than asking for a conventional (restricted to two shots) pistol or revolver and FWIW a lot more versatile. But nowadays sourcing a decent single shot true .410" shot pistol of a similar quality to the Harrington & Richardson Handy Gun in that calibre I once had might be difficult.
Not if you’re lucky. I sourced and purchased a Taurus judge in .410 limited to two shot a while back.

You have a .410 and a .308 how can you demonstrate a need for slugs, genuine question; you have all eventualities covered, you need to have a chat with your FLO around need not convenience or desire.;) As has been stated ricochet risk needs to be addressed.

Just to spur you on, this is my 12g slug group at 60 yards with open sights.

This is a .410 Brenneke 1/4oz slug for comparison, very tiny but in a Yildiz single barrel, good for 30 yard groups.

This is my .410 over and under, breaks clays on the skeet range and comes out for dispatch when needed

Ps all solids were either on FAC or outside the UK

Great service and choice, worth the days round trip :)

The reason I have 20g slugs is for dispatch and for boar but I suspect a 410 slug might not have the energy for the latter, it’s one thing to dispatch an immobile or injured beast but another to shoot running boar, not sure I’d want to test it though ?

That looks a very handy bit of kit.

I have 12g slug on my permit for dispatch and any legal quarry also dispatch dangerous animals ie bull or farm animals gone daft or escaped in areas where a rifle is not suitable
Call to do a mad bull in farmyard not long ago 30 cal is not good enough slug just drops them
