4x4 tyres???

Yep, good tyres. The Falken Wildpeak and the Toyo Open Country AT Plus are two really good affordable tyres that are decent on road and surprisingly good offroad. I would not take them proper mud bashing but my mate especially pushes his Toyo's to ridiculous limits in his first edition Grand Vitara. That thing goes anywhere and he rarely puts it in to 4wd let alone low range. It might be to do with the lighter nature of the little Suzuki but those tyres punch well above their weight.
I take mine properly off road - deep mud welly deep on the track up to my pen in the wood and where I stalk….. the Wildpeak seem to clear the tread really well…. Next time I’m properly in the thick of it I’ll take some photos…..

Anybody tried Avon AX7 ? They seem to get decent reviews. Having ignored my Mrs complaints about the truck being a bit **** in the wet, I will be under pressure to ditch the OEM Duellers ( which are a Summer tyre, daft fitment in the UK). This when it finally shows up....

Avoid Avon - there's only 2 tyres they've produced that I rate. The rest are ditchfinders 😂
The 2 -
There supersport motorbike tyre, in the dry they're something else. Only good smooth tarmac, anything damp and it will let go.
The severe snow tyres, absolutely incredible.

Leave the rest alone 😂

The coopers discoverer ATT or AT3 LT are worth a look. I use them on an old Toyota that hauls wood chip or logs, so mainly road miles with occasional muddy off roads. They’ve not let me down yet and give good mileage. They do various other AT’s but they’re more off-road/load carrying oriented, I’ve gone for the Cooper ST Maxx on another work van that does a fair bit of off-road towing and a mate uses the STT muds on his Landcruiser. All depends what noise/economy/compromises you’re wanting to make.

I have the Grabber AT3's on my D-max and so far so good. Quiet, good in the wet. As for off-road, only been up a very wet & long grassy sloping track where my previous BFG's struggled so limited testing off-road. As for mpg, about 2mpg less running locally than my old worn Hankooks. Long motorway run about 38/40mpg ( computer reading)

For me personally, I found I could take my old Hilux through moderate mud etc on the OEM Duellers, but it wasn't very confidence inspiring on winter wet and cold roads. Realistically, I need something that has good all season road ability, with just that wee bit off-road ability. So, Geolandar, AX7 etc are in the frame.

My old Sorento was wearing Toyo Open Country AT when I bought it second hand. I was very pleased with them, but changed to different brands afterwards with mixed results. I bought them about 1y ago and again very happy with them. However off road terrain in Spain is very different to yours.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply, I’m currently looking to see what available in the standard navara size and what else is available increasing the width up to a 265. The maxxis worm drive, grabber AT3 and falken wildpeaks seem to be the favourites so far.

Just be aware that the increased width - as seems to be the current fashion in 4x4 tyres - is just about the worst thing in icy conditions. Ok for mud, and maybe soft snow, but lethal on ice or hard packed snow. A narrow knobbly tyre is far, far safer and gives much better grip in those conditions. The wider tyres just slide, no matter how good the tread is.

I'd rather go narrow than taller, especially if you're actually using it in the mud

I’m only planning on going wider if I can’t get the tyre I decide on in the standard size. Tye Maxxis worn drive for instance dosnt seem to be available in 255/60/18 but is in 265/60/18. It’s only a small amount wider so shouldn’t be an issue.

Avon Ax7 on the bosses new ranger..... been in sloppy stuff and not got stuck!!... and seem decent on the road too.
Toyo open country at+ were awesome on my old outlander.... lasted really well.
Maxxis wormdrive are a tad noisy on the road and didn't past as long as expected on the works l200... not bad off road.
Now running davanti terratoura at on both my work hilux and the work l200 and so far wearing well and fairly quiet on road.... neither of us been stuck yet (I'm renowned for getting hilux stuck ).... and I think I'll be putting them on the other hilux in next couple of months... good value tyres tbh.
Some fencing contractors we had here ran the grabber at3s on their 17 plate navara..... they got sound some wet fields with a trailer without getting stuck... some of those fields I would only venture in with the polaris!....

Just check on full articulation that they don't rub, it doesn't sound much but if it's a meatier tyre and a bit bigger it may surprise you. You have an extra 10mm tread plus the slight height increase too.
