Looking at a tier one muzzle brake and finding confusuion with sizing.

Is 5/8x24 TPI the same as UNF?

Cheers

As soon as i posted the above i started to doubt myself, it's been a while since i retired from this kind of thing. A quick search brought up an old post from UKV. Thankfully it confirmed what i posted.

It is just maths not confusing :tiphat:

Imperial is measured in the number of VVVVV per inch

Metric is the distance per V-V

5/8 is an imperial size so they quote a Threads per Inch so your thread is 5/8 unEf (e stands for extra fine)

5/80.6250240.59790.57540.5799

Metric fine pitch is quoted in mm so as an example M 15x1

M14x1.251412.647
M14x1.51412.376
M15x11513.917
M15x1.51513.376
[th]
Thread x pitch
[/th][th]
Major diameter
[/th][th]
Minor diameter female thread
[/th]

Probably even more confused now. Can somebody talk to me like I'm a 2 year old and tell me if TPI will fit my unEf threaded barrel :-|

Surprised me to find Bergara use an Imperial thread for barrel muzzles.
Maybe the USA sales dictate dimms.
Ken.

Maybe they can't cut an imperial thread as their long beards get in the way changing the gears around lol
Things have advanced a little since the changing gears days when making firearms….in some places anyway 🙂 Hehe.

Even the 1 country still clinging to imperial, use the decimal system. Money is in hundreds, drugs in mg/ml, thousanths of an inch.
Its a shame we cling to the past and havent moved with the times
