I’ve an itch that needs scratching. Looking for something to bash 500+m gongs. Ruger Precision or a re-barrelled Tac A1…that sort of thing.
Regards,
DG

You could use anything for that (6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm etc - wouldn’t limit choice to PRC

Unless it’s an itch you really need to scratch I would suggest looking at a more main stream cartridge as well.
Against 6.5prc
Factory 6.5 prc can be on short or medium actions. If it’s a short action need magazines with out the binder plate to feed to a max length of 2.95”. This is book max length. If your just shooting factory then not really an issue.
Uses around 15-20grain( 20-30%) more powder to get 200-250fps more than a 6.5 creedmoor
Factory ammo is not as readily available and cost more
Barrel life is shorter.
Limited to magnum bolt face cartridges In future unless your using a custom action with changeable bolt faces.
Fewer factory chambering in 6.5prc at present ( sure this will change over next few years)
With 147 elem I have 0.3mil less elevation with the 6.5prc than my 6.5 creedmoor at 500m.

I’m having a 6.5prc built on a short action with a specific role over my 6.5 creedmoor. 1:7.5 twist barrel to shoot lighter copper quickly, aiming for 120 grain at around 3200, hopefully to extend reliable expansion as a hunting round over 6.5creedmoor by 1-200m.

If you’re interested in having one go for it, just making you aware of some of the pitfalls of it.

Regards

Yeah…I just fancy that particular calibre.

If it’s what you want - go for it

Easy to do on any Tikka T3 473 “ action (open bolt face is simple for anyone to do) or find a magnum action

It is a great calibre - go for it. Factory ammo becoming more available and plenty of bullet powder combos - brass available. I've found it pretty easy to load for and love it as an all round gun.

Paid £130 to £150 x100 300PRC Brass , i'd get the reloading gear first as a build would be easy if your builder has the tooling to hand,
Will move into a big fat 30" tube this will be my next choice once the wilderness HMR bergara barrel is shoot out .
enjoying the cal not enjoying 83grs per case lol.
