I have a slot on my ticket for the above caliber .my thoughts are do I buy new or rebarrel. I have a tidy sako 75 in 308 that would be a good donor but would it be possible too achieve .or do I need too just buy new.answers much appreciated

I presume you need a magnum bolt face for a prc!?!?!? And I would think long action to so your .308 won’t be any good as far as I’m aware.

My understanding is that it can work on a short action, but how well depends on the action and whether the mag is at the long or short end of the normal range.

You may be able to have the bolt face opened. I once looked at whether it’s possible with a Tikka and standard to magnum did appear doable, even if not perfect.

Given the Sako has a fixed ejector, the only thing will be whether the extractor will tolerate a wider bold face.

You can made a 6.5prc on a short action magnum bolt face. If you use a chassis you can get short action magazines without a binder plate giving 2.955” col. I’ve done this and works superbly as a stalking rifle. If trying to get the most out of the cartridge for long range with long heavy bullets probably better going on a long action so you cal load over CIP length to get the most case volume.

@Ronin made me a PRC on a Tikka T3 standard action. He just opened out the bolt face.

It is a ln absurdly accurate gun, and the 6.5PRC is marvellous.

I’m not a fan of the Sako 75 but I’m sure it’s an easy conversion.

Action size is going too be an issue and I did first think about tikka because of the long action ect.just me trying too use what iv got too hand though. Tikka actions are easy too get hold of after all

Your unlikely to fit PRC ammunition into an Action 1V magazine and use it effectively (compromising on case capacity if hand loading)

Better choosing a long action

T3 would get my vote, buikt several, all worked very effectively from end user reports
