6.5 x 47 lapua users - hunting specific

I shot a doe kid on Sunday morning with my 6.5x47. Even used a ballistic tip too. I would like to point out that the only reason that the deer died an instant and painless death was that I had carefully neck turned my cases! If I had neglected to do this quite frankly anything could have happened!! :D

hi mate ,welcome to the confusion on what caliber to get, I changed from my .270 to a 6.5x47 last season, with great results, dropping fallow out to 300m and reds (head shot) out to 175m , I am using 123gr a-max, vit n150 powder, and getting 2700fps according to quick loader ,grouping is great and this little bullet definately punches above its weight.Even at this relatively slow speed there is plenty of punch left, when it reaches the target, speed isnt everything!!! I am finding on the reds there often isnt an exit hole, so I assume all the energy is absorbed by the animal, so to sum up my little praize for this caliber with a Hardy mod from NEW ZEALAND ,it is very quiet and does what it says on the tin as long as you dont go and do something stupid when loading the bullets.
