6mm dilemma

What will the ARC give you over the 6 CM?
Genuine question.
Massive fan of 6mm’s. I’ve had a 6x47L for years now and find it a breeze to shoot and easier to reload for than any other rifle I’ve owned.

For me it’s the short barrel. The ARC is based off the Grendel case which in turn is the PPC and just a bit smaller than the BR. I have no idea why but these smaller cases punch well abouve the case capacity and are very efficient. Ballistics under 300m for fox at night with a low or high BC bullet are negligible so I can shoot a lighter bullet fast from a short barrel. Which for me is the advantage.

IMHO, it's way too overbore, unless you're willing to deal with a very short barrel life. The smaller 6mm's (6mmARC, 6x47L, etc.) are a better option IMHO for a hunting round. And use less powder doing it.

Is there any noticeable difference between a 6CM and a .243 in field conditions? Assuming you’ve used both.

I feel the 6CM has a bit more muzzle blast, but then again, I've only shot the 6CM braked. And my 243's are hunting rifles (sporter barrels, no brakes).

Realistically, there's no real difference on game. It just comes down to brass availability/quality and whether you want to shoot higher BC bullets.

From a functioning perspective, the 6CM gets the nod, due to it feeding better from a detachable mag. Conversely, the .243 feeds better from a blind mag.

It all just depends on the shooters' intended use of the rifle.

For me, and from my experience of shooting lots of 6xc and .243 over the years, the benefit of the 6xc is some efficiency (if that is a benefit), lower recoil, and less brass stretching/neck trimming. I think the 6CM claims similar befits.

The more modern 6's are also claimed to be inherently accurate, however my .243 put all 3 bullets into a cloverleaf with no particular load development, just a load that had worked in another rifle, so i guess that is inherently accurate too (or just really well built )

Although now i shoot a .243 (8 twist) and the main reason i chose it over other 6mm's was availability of factory ammo, even though i reload.

I can’t really see past the .243 especially if you can get a faster twist.

Shoot 80gn copper through it and you are set for anything or a 75gn superformance and you can buy ammunition in the shop if needs be

A chap on ukv has a 6mm PRC runs at warp speed. There is a rate of diminishing returns though when that much powder.

6mm creedmoor, 6XC, 6-6.5X47 and 6mmGT really are all in the same ball park. Pick one that you can get brass for and go shoot.

I went with 6mm creedmoor because I can use my 6.5 creedmoor bushing FL with the correct 6mm bush and I use the same seating die. I haven’t even needed to change the seating stem. Brass is lapua 6mm head stamped and I can re-size 6.5 creedmoor brass.

Some how the 6mmbr punches well above its station. With 30gr of powder and a 26” barrel it will push a 105gr bullet at 2900fps which is the same as the rest.

What I want is a short barrel and optimal performance. It’s always a compromise though. I’m looking into 6mm ARC and a 16” barrel.

Alright Scotch , it also runs 110g Atips pretty quick aswell
