6.5x55 or 6.5 creedmoor

Good evening fellow stalkers,

After your opinions (however rogue)...

I'm in the market for a new calibre for stalking, I currently have .243 and 30.06 and my main quarry is Fallow.
The maximuin range on my permissions is 300 yards.

So I've narrowed it down to 6.5x55 or 6.5 creedmoor and am after your thoughts.
Trying to factor in all the pros and cons and still can not decide! 😅

Please don't start your answer with a quip about my husband shooting too!
For me it's all about what the gun / bullet can do.

Thanks in adavance

It's the 6 of two three's. Almost flip a coin. I have the Swiss and am very happy with it, I did for a while wish id got the creed for the only reason of availability of factory ammo is regularly more available. I now re load for the Swiss and quite happy in carrying on with it. If I was to apply now knowing what I know, I would choose a creed for the only one reason of buying factory ammo is easier and more available IMO

What is it you feel the .243 and .30-06 are lacking? May help to refine your choice, although you must already be able to cover nigh on every weight/speed of bullet.

Or do you just want a new gun cos… (which is clearly fine too!)

With the law changing to lead free, .243 will not cut the mustard. 30.06 has a little too much power and s fair kick.

I have shot a lot of deer with my 6.5x55's
I have two of them. I also have a semi custom .308.
Next rifle for me it would be a 6.5x55 in a t3 action put into a super varmint stock like my 308
I have a tikka 695 in 6.5x55 nothing wrong with it just would like the option of putting a different stock on it.

Get what feels right for you . If you reload and if your barrel is longer than 20" you can shoot at creedmore speeds. Nothing in it really . Shot placement with the right bullet

dont know any thing about the creedmore but the 6.5x55 will handle bullets from 85gr up to 156 no problem so covers all your need s + wild boar

I shoot a 55, and have done for 30+ years.
I’d buy a Creedmore just for availability of ammo.
Me too . As much as I like the Swede , ammo and components ( brass ) are far easier to source for the Creedmoor around here . I've used a 6.5x55 , in one form or another , for about 40 years . It's a great cartridge , but , for non reloaders , a box of ammo sells for almost twice the price of a box of 6.5 Creedmoor . I'll always reload for my Swedes , but if I were limited to factory ammo , the Creedmoor has the edge , at least in these parts .

I love my 6.5x55 but noticed in the local
Gun shop today 10+ types of 6.5 Creedmoor ammo compared to 1 6.5x55.
If I didn’t reload and was picking a new rifle I think I’d choose 6.5 Creedmoor (actually 6.5 PRC but you didn’t ask about that one).

I also hunted for years with a 6.5x55 and it's a great calibre but if I was buying again I'd go for the creedmoor.
Better choice of ammo and better choice of new rifles to choose from.

dont know about the Creed but 6.5 swede wil be great with solid bullet. have been shooting ttsx and ariete 108 110 grains for years and it performs like a magnum . but with way less hassle
