6ppc on a .22 hornet action.

I fancy a 6 ppc for foxing and occasional deer, aim is a nice light Barry rifle.

I can have a CZ .22 hornet action for little to nothing which fits the bill, as they do a 527 in 6.5 grendel / 7.62x39 could the hornet be converted by opening up the bolt face, tweaking the extractor and replacing the magzine?

Or would that be far too simple?

The CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62x39 (which was made in RH ONLY) uses a bigger action than my American LH in .223.
I think it was 'Hornet6' who once had one of these who told me that.:)

A bigger action than the hornet (which the .223 .17 rem are built on) or a 3rd, bigger again size?

If it gets the OK to build green light go all the way and make it a 25PPC!

K
Lovely idea buy it would be too close to the 25-45.

I’ve realised its probably time I owned a 6 mm, my k-hornet is going to a new home for someone who’s needs it fits perfectly (foxes over a small, contained urban area).

This will leave me a slot for a fox rifle, and the fact my 6.5 CM is no longer conditioned for field use means a longer range fox rifle can be justified. I could get a .243 but, where’s the fun in that?

6ppc is basically 243x1.5”. Love mine but light it is not.

why start with a rimmed extractor version of a rifle that already comes with a PPC bolt face in x39 form?
seems like a lot of work when getting any spares for the 527 can be difficult

get the grendel version and run both barrels, or just get the grendel and run lighter bullets

This is potentially the route I’ll go, but the reasoning would be the hornet action is there, available and basically free.

The 6.5 Grendel is too close to the 25-45, similar power and weights of bullets available. With the ppc o can go down to 55/58 grain bullets which is appealing and 80 gr copper for deer, Grendel I am starting at 95/100 grains, not where I want this rifle to be.

Don't forget to factor in magazine and bottom metal , add that to the price of modifying the bolt and it may just be cheaper to buy a preloved CZ527 6.5 Grendel .
