7x57 Build

Sounds good @harrygrey382 ,-and i'm sure you'll be able to get to bottom of it!-
And what a great idea of your son learning steadily on the x57, with the potential of him growing into the adult loads as he matures himself. How special would it be for him to litteraly grow up as a hunter, using a rifle his father built, and which can serve him his own entire hunting career as well, before he maybe one day choses to start of his own son, or a nephew or the son of friend learning on that very same rifle again. That would be a quite beautiful cycle, actually.😇

PS. I've just started the 7x57 dedicated reloading thread in the reload section of the forum, so should you want to pop in there, i am sure there will be ample advice and trouble shooting input for your loading, should you fancy some :)
100%, I would be honoured if that were the case. Nice one on the reloading thread I’ll chime in
it looks beautiful! sleek, simple (in a good way) and elegant, and personally i really like schabel forends look wise. Congratulations! How much does it weigh? :)
Thank you! With a full mag and leather sling it’s 4.5kg. Heavy but not ridiculous, certainly makes it nice to shoot anyway
What a lovely looking rifle
Thanks a lot

Just trying to sort my images out throughout my threads. For Postman Pat here is the finished product

Looks Great, well done mate, especially as there were challenges to overcome too! - i look forward to hear how it takes the field with you, and of course also with your son! :-)

Thanks a lot. I did end up having a great time with my son. 3 days and nights in the bush just me and my 13 y/o son - some pretty wild off roading to even get to the end of the "road". Everything on our backs and no phone service, thick bush and wild steep country but unfortunately we never got a shot off. The sambar are pretty elusive and there was so much cover we couldn't spot and stalk. Got honked at a couple of times but that was it. Might come in via boat next time...

I have shot a few goats and roos (under permit) with it though. Including a 280 and 440m shot. Performing very well but I'm still addicted to the Type B for most of my hunting at the moment

Sounds like a Great trip with your son, even if no animals were seen. And when you do spot some game in the future, having not spotted and harvested one right Away, will likely just make That moment even bigger :)

Does he know that the rifle will be his one day yet?

Ps. I have a sporterized m98 in 6.5x57 , carrying a Schultz Larsen barrel, and I think whomever put it together to its current configuration modelled it after the obendorff Mausers in terms of stock and look.
Now even though she has a full length 24 inch barrel, she shoulders and points well, carries light, has good balance and distributes recoil well.
So Maybe Obendorf just hit a true Winner with that stock and rifle design , and i can more than understand if that's your go to, at the moment. 👍
And that's even without the great satisfaction that I imagine carrying and using a rifle one put so much effort into making , must bring. .-)

This Geovid/S&B Klassilk combo is pretty slick - glass, range, dial, shoot. No wind, but 1st shot landed exact POA at 450m - not bad for 2250 fps. Animal was DRT.

yes 100%. It will make the taking of a public land deer all the more well earned! I'm not sure how much kids factor in their inheritance - I think when they're that age the idea of their parents passing on and therefore getting their stuff doesn't enter their head. Besides there's his brother he's going to negotiate with! But yes I hope he'll get many years of use out of whichever he gets and pass it on down too.

Your 6.5x57 sounds like a lovely rifle - in fact all the points you describe make it out as the perfect rifle. 6.5x57 is definitely one I've given serious consideration too. The joy of using these sorts of rifle really is excessive!
