Hi, I'm about to invest in a set of swaro el range bino and I'm really unsure whether to go for 10x42 or 8x42. Currently I use 10x42 and I do find that field of view is compromised....

thoughts please.

8x is a good compromise. Enough detail to sex roe at sane ranges, good enough field of view for woods and enough depth of field to not have to adjust focus too much.

7x42 was great but only Leica now. Some of the Zeiss 8x are verging on that FOV now.

Finally if you stalk the same piece of ground consider a separate range finder. You soon get to know the ranges and then don't have to lift a rangefinder to your eyes every 2 seconds. After all with a 243 for example with a decent zero ie 165 yards you only have to worry about 225 and over no?

If you are woodland stalking at low light, get the x8.
If you are open hill stalking in good light, get the x10.
x8 will give you much more light and a lot less shake.

There is no offering at all for 7x42 range finding binoculars by any manufacturer currently.

The choice of 8x vs. 10x should largely be based on your ability to hold a 10x steady enough for it to be of any benefit to you.

Oddly, I had a set of the last Zeiss lead glass run of 10x42 Diatal T* P* type...yet they seemed to have a wider field of view than did my Leica 7x42. One set had to go so they were the ones that went. But I do regret it. Very much. So my futher advice is, perhaps, to wait to something like the Game Fair or the 2019 British Shooting Show or similar and make a comparison test.
