I probably know the answer to this but will seek opinions anyway
In the farmyard I have an old cattle trough which collects rain water which the dogs regularly drink from and which I use for watering in the greenhouse. Thus

All good so far. But if you look at chimney above it you will see lead flashing (I assume it is) and interestingly no moss or lichen grows on the slates below it

I also have a rain water butt for same purpose, below skylight also with lead flashing

So, what are your thoughts re dogs drinking at trough and me eating lbs of produce from greenhouse in last 10 years

I suspect the rain water is not acidic enough to remove anything more than minute traces of lead, if any and even less lead will enter the plants. If the flashing were to be damaged and fall in the cattle trough so it gets eaten, you may well get ill or dead cattle.

If you take into consideration the amount of time it takes lead to oxidise and become porous, (probably many many generations), and the small amount of lead you have visible l wouldn’t think you have much of a problem.

No lead is beneficial to our welfare but think of all the lead pipe work still in existence supplying drinking water !!

Actually lead is very poisonous and you and your dogs died twenty years ago, you and your dogs are just resurrections of yourself and the dogs come back to enjoy the delights of the modern world ;-)
Happy new year ;-)

I suspect you are in more danger of the flashing being blown off and landing on your noggin than ever suffering from lead ingestion from it

What I forgot to add was that if you into homeopathy then you can sell the rainbutt as a cure for dullness, lethargy, blindness....

there is a problem with lead pipes when the water is in contact with it all the time as various chemical reactions take place in the USA There is a massive legal case in a small town against the water supply company essentially the people had water through lead pipes for years very little problem then the anti lead science got into the council so they took scientific advice and started treating the water with chemicals still no problem but to save money the council stop treating the lead pipes and the chemicals had stripped the passivation layer away thus the exposed lead was now toxic this then poisoned the whole town
