A field report from Jackson Hole, WY.

You are correct. Traffic is madness, people all over the place, everyone looks like they just stepped out of an outfitters catalog. Jackson is the cutest little town that I hate. They would charge for the air if they could.
I couldn't agree more in relation to that town, we visited Boulder in Colorado one day, that was enough for us thank you!
Cheers

Fabulous write up - its an amazing place to be. I was lucky enough to have a 4 week holiday out there in 2011. Fished Henry's Fork, the Missouri river at Craig, the Big Horn, some private spring creeks near Bozeman, North Fork of the Tongue, and the Lamar river and Sloop Creek in Yellowstone park. What happy memories your report brings back! As a Brit, I couldn't get used to the bears though..... A black bear came to about 15 meters of me on the first night we arrived and thereafter whenever I saw a bear print or bear **** by the river, my heart would pound and the shakes would set in as the adrenaline ran through my body....

Yes, all the locals say the time for the protection of the Grizzly is over. They need to be hunted again and get back their fear of man. The state of Wyoming is pleading with the Federal government to lift the hunting ban. Snow flakes keep blocking it, as usual, they are clueless.

You have named a few rivers I fished on my visits, superb fishing is an understatement, I have never been to concerned about the bears, just aware, and like you I have come across them, the most Griz activity I saw was high in the Madisons and walking to meadow 3 on Slough Creek in Yellowstone.
When you say private spring creeks was it De Puys or Nelsons? They are a bit like fishing the test aren't they, but have wild fish not stocked.

It was called 'The MZ' Ranch. Think it is closed to the public now as they had some insurance problems with over hanging electric cables.
The stream and countryside was a bit fishing in the following video.... although some of the crocodiles seen here are bigger than anything I encountered!

A bit tongue in cheek, G.O.W., but how does shooting a few Grizzlies dead make the others get back their fear of man ? Is it that only the fearful ones survive ?

I hope my comment above did not sound too frivolous. The management of interactions between big wild animals is of increasing importance both in the third world and in Europe/North America.

It’s the whole process of hunting them that make them regain their fear of man. Look at just about any other animal that is hunted. Coyotes are a good example. They are shot at every opportunity. They see you first and they are moving out fast. Before the grizzly was 100 percent protected an attack on man was rare. Cougar attacks and encounters have risen as well in my state once the hunting of them with dogs was banned. The WY., Department of Fish and Game is desperately trying to get a reasonable hunting season put back in place. They are the experts to me.

These ones don't seem to have regained their fear of man - at least not judging by the fact that they have their own Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts :banghead::

Sadly I fear it will be only a matter of time before some Instagram influencer decides to "get up close to mummy bear and her cubs" in pursuit of a few additional likes, only to encounter the harsh reality of what grizzly bears are really like.

The media, of course, will brush over their own contributory role in such tragedies by publishing such clickbait in the first place.
