A fridge that is freezing stuff

Hi all

It's been a while since I've posted anything. I've got back in to stalking after some time off doing other things and am getting heavily back in to it now!

I'm wondering if anyone can offer some advice about a large domestic larder fridge that I've acquired second had with the intention of using it for hanging deer. It's positioned out in my garage and I've had several instances where the contents has frozen and I've measured as low as -9C. This seems to normally occur when the temperature int eh garage is fairly cold - about +5 to +10C.

I'm trying to confirm if this is a fault with the fridge thermostat, or is it the case that domestic fridges only function properly at indoor type temperatures? I assumed the temperature control would operate purely on the internal temperature of the fridge and that low external temperatures would just affect the efficiency but is there more going on?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks
