A little clarification about the British Shooting Show .

Fellow members having read through the thread about the NEC banking trophy hunting outfitters from the British Shooting Show I firmly believe a little clarification is merited .
I have just got off the phone with John Allison the c.e.o. of BSS and a few things have been made crystal clear by having that discussion.
1. This is an action by the NEC not the British Sooting Show . The BSS sees hunting in all forms a an integral and vital part of our sport and indeed the firearms industry .
2. this action has the potential to affect ALL aspects of field shooting . if turn up with a head to be measured ....... well thats trophy hunting . a fox head that has been mounted ..... trophy ! ..... pheasants mounted .... trophy ! believe me when i say that the NEC document is so loosely worded that deer stalking outfits /managment firms could find themselves banned as well .
3 . It is Vital that ALL i i do mean everyone get online and sign the petition for the NEC to reverse their decision . As the PR department from BSS went to great length to reiterate : The outfitters have broken NO LAWS and are the cutting edge of conservation in the countries that they operate .
4. This is merely a beginning . The UK Knife Show at brBristol has had to change venue for next year as the local council objected to knives being sold due to knife crime in London and Birmingham . Now in that vein what is to stop objections being made about cutlery at the BSS . Then you will have objections about firearms ...... can you see the potential here ???
5. The BSS PR Department is attempting to organise the biggest delegation of industry figures ever assembled to put the case across to the NEC . I for one will be there !!!
6 i will emphasise this as it is the real important one .THE ENTIRE SHOOTING FRATERNITY , AND I MEAN EVERYONE NEEDS TO STAND TOGETHER FOR ONCE AND FACE THIS . NO DIVISIVE COMMENTS LIKE I AM A TARGET SHOOTER IT DOESNT AFFECT ME . OH YES IT DOES . BECAUSE THE NEXT ACTION WILL BE THAT THEY WILL ATTEMPT TO CLOSE EVERY SHOW ,EVERY GAME FAIR EVERY EXPO ,USING PUBLIC SAFETY AS A REASON . ( WE CANNOT RISK HAVING DEMONSTRATIONS ,BECAUSE THERE ARE FIREARMS ON SITE AND SOMETHING MIGHT HAPPEN ) .
7 . use social media to contact ALL of your friends colleagues and circle of influence and get them to sign the petition . Make no mistake dear members this is not scare mongering this is going to affect everyone . Join together everyone or you may find that what you love is gone .

Have signed the one @Orion linked to. Assume it is the same one.

Now they're fighting it, let's do as Mike says and get behind these guys.

Kind regards,

Well done to Mike Norris, it's high time that the trade got involved in fighting the ever-increasing pressure on shooting. It has rather surprised me that big companies seem to have remained extremely quiet throughout the General Licence fiasco and the other incessant attacks on our sport.
Surely, any reduction in shooting of whatever persuasion will have a severe effect on many shooting related businesses yet unless I've missed out I can't recall seeing many of the big names putting their heads above the parapet. If I'm wrong I apologise. But again, well done to Mike.

Hello Sir . contrary to popular belief the major players are involved . of course they are no shooting ,that are out of business . Major wholesalers are working with the BSS PR department as we speak and I have been on the phones to friends in the trade . Today i made the decision i will be showing at the BSS next year . At first I was not going to. I will categorically state THAT WAS THE WRONG DECISION !!!! .every shooter needs to attend the BSS next year .every facet of the sport , Not for the financial gain of the show but to show the antis the NEC we will not be cowed by a bunch of extremists who are trying to intimidate us . I will make this a call to arms so to speak for all our members . STAND UP AND BE COUNTED . if 300 000 people attend the NEC no bunch of unwashed lowlifes are going to try anything . They would be peacefully restrained and escorted from the premises by the law abiding citizens we are . I am willing to put my money where my mouth is and commit to the show I ask every member to do the same . yours respectfully Mike Norris c.e.o Brock and Norris Custom Rifles

Thanks for the clarification.

In that case all the organisations and not just SACS need to get behind it and mobilise their memberships.

Post the link everywhere you can guys Petition
talks are ongoing . this is industry driven gents not organisations so you can bet things will happen . I was with the SACS director on monday and spoke with him at length on Tuesday they are on board . Now BASC need to get their house in order not be self-serving as per usual .

I followed one of @Orion 's links to Change.org and signed what I thought was the petition but was not able to leave the site unless I made a donation...

Was that a scam site? If not a scam who or what is the money for?

Alan
