Set up my portable hide against a big oak tree opposite a bit of wood where the fallow seem to think they’ve got all approaches covered - they’ve been right until today.
Went back this afternoon & couldn’t believe it, even before I got to the seat I could see 3 fallow out directly opposite! Managed to get up the ladder & settle in without spooking them & then waited to see what happened next. Eventually there were 11 of them, mainly does with fawns but also a pricket to try & avoid.
Pinged the centre of the mob at just over 200 yards so all good there. Next bit was a long wait to get one to present a good shot, I waited & waited, & waited, & waited then finally a doe was on.
Reaction to shot was as expected but what wasn’t expected was what some might call ‘collateral damage’ the doe went down but so too did another female
A perfect, but totally unintended, head shot!
