A Rural Rising in Wales?

BASC is supporting farmers in Wales in challenging restrictive agri-environmental proposals and calling for payments for the control of deer, squirrel, mink, carrion crow and fox.

Across Wales this year you will see signs saying “No farmers, no food”. BASC Wales has joined some of the protests and we have been working closely with Welsh farming organisations on the policy front.

If the needs of the farming and shooting community are ignored, we may see a rural rising causing disruption on a scale not seen since the Rebecca Riots in Wales almost 200 years ago.

Until they stand up and cause major disruption such as we have seen across Europe they will continue to be largely ignored.

The MP’s continue to try and appease the highly vocal and highly disruptive anti’s.
The anti’s will block a road and cause lots of chaos.

The farmers/rural folk moan about it but until it impacts the majority of voters or MP’s they don’t think they actually have to do anything!

Now that is an interesting proposal. How did it go down?

Even if the money bit isn't forthcoming it is flipping the argument on them. Surely the "Government" should be actively enforcing the control of pest species that are damaging the ecological balance (ground nesting birds etc). So faermers should be told to keep the numbers down to a specified level. Probably better to make their grants dependent on achieving these goals.

That way we will get rid of deliberate over population of deer by zookeeper stalkers.

You missed off Magpies.

Good idea though. Can you make the same suggestion to Jockistan please.

I thought that's what they had been doing. It's just that the main stream media have been ignoring them? If the media don't cover it, nothing is happening. Another agenda tick.

Huge crowd turns out for First Minister’s really interesting speech on restrictive agri-environmental proposals….

This of course is the soon to be forgotten first minister of Wales who "was surprised at the back lash from drivers" when he forced through the much loved 20mph zones.
However, it does give us all a chance to see the damage that a Labour Government will do to the country.... We have the idiots in the SNP and Wales has the idiots in the Labour party - the hell that is modern life!

And don’t forget the stellar Conservalabour government in Westminster, led by a mandateless technocrat stooge who I dearly hope will be removed before the next election. He really needs to feel the chill of the knife he so recently wielded between his own shoulder blades.

We are rapidly reaching the point of having no faith whatsoever in our elected politicians of any type/brand......very few are showing any sort of quality at all and all they're interested in is the ability to dive into the trough!

Let BASC tread carefully and not allow itself to be seen as being used by an England and Westminster centric Conservative Party as a "useful fool" to oppose a Labour led Wales and Cardiff based Welsh Government and Welsh First Minister.

I have just returned from a weekend in Cardiff visiting my wife's relatives.
I feel for anyone living in the 20mph areas!
I have never seen so many speed bumps, traffic lights and 20mph zones.

I wanted to join a park run, I thought setting off at 08:10 for a 09:00 start would be plenty of time, cut a long story short, had trouble finding the start, worried about exceeding the speed limit, ended up missing the start by 2 minutes, down to the 20mph zones.

How much is it going to cost Wales to return the limits to 30mph, what a waste of money.

The slower limit means that your journey takes 50% longer, assuming that you could travel at the higher speed.
A 30 mile trip through a 30mph area will take you 1 hour.
At 20mph the same journey will take you 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Most people underestimate the time penalty of slower speed limits.

Yep - had the pleasure of crawling through a few welsh places late last year - it really is life in (very) slow motion. Mind you saying that we were in London a few weeks before and it was just as bad. Had to chuckle to myself watching the “dahling” drivers of all the very expensive cars and top-end Chelsea Tractors struggling to keep to the 20.
I expect cyclists now ring their bells furiously at car drivers who are holding them up - what a mess!

I think we are way past that point. Whatever the colour of the flag you wave, the conservatives are a bungling mess, labour in Wales have shown what an utter s**t show they have made of everything that matters in Wales - the health service, roads, general licencing etc, etc. The alleged thievery of the leaders of the Scottish National Party - As you say they seem to be interested in getting their snout in the trough. We absolutely should use our vote when the time comes, if nothing else we still have a democracy. However, we only seem to have the vote on which way the country is taken down. A very sad state of affairs.
