i just ordered one today for my 25-06, i'll report back on how it stands up to 54.5gn of n160 rammed up it repeatedly!
#Perhaps the Roedale with 2 steel baffles is the best comprimise....
Can you buy mods through the post?
TBH I am happy with the trade off of weight improoving the balance. If I have to replace the baffels after 5 or so years at £16 per unit that is better than replacing a T8 complete after 5 years.

Fair point, I’m just quite torn between the ASE SL5 and the A-Tec Cmm4.
I think the SL5 will be a safer option in that it should out last the alu mod and will not be subject to gas cutting in the same way but it is a little heavier.
I need to hurry up and make a decision but just can't decide!

My understanding is you could legaly buy a CF .22 moderator to fit on a .22 air rifle with no certificate. So there would be no issue sending it in the mail. The first time you put it on a CF rifle it becomes an item that must be on ticket and in theory it can not be taken off of ticket. It could then still be sent through the post but must be RFD to RFD.

I certainly wouldn't take the chance of losing my FAC for that especially in the current climate.

Just the sort of thing our representitive organisations ought to be taking up with the Home Office, if only they could find some backbone!Dave
I'm sure we would both agree the law is at times an a$$
.Has anyone got more info on david 1976's post about CMM4 instructions saying not to use plstic tip or 100 gr plus bullets through this mod. This seems a bit limiting to say the least, maybe I,m missing somthing but what would the differance be to the mod if you fired a 75gr soft point instead of a 75gr plastic tip round through it?
What it actually says is that for any moderator, it is not recommended to use bullets with a stability factor of less than 1.5 for reliable accuracy. Some rifles may not have a suitable rifling twist to adequately stabilise 100+gr 6mm bullets (for example, or 55+gr .223 bullets, etc.). In theory, firing an unstable bullet could cause the bullet to make contact with the moderator, but basically, if your rifle doesn't stabilise heavy for calibre bullets, then it won't shoot to its accuracy potential anyway, so you shouldn't be using them. I think the reference to plastic tipped bullets is probably a reference to, for example, the 6mm 105gr Amax and other long for calibre bullets...I also did not realise before I bought it that it stated in the instructions not to use bullets of 100gr or more and not to use plastic tipped bullets in it.
I wondered how you were finding the Maxim? Are you pleased with it?I liked the noise reduction and weight balance of my CMM4 but found it cut badly and I put less than 100 rounds through it. I also did not realise before I bought it that it stated in the instructions not to use bullets of 100gr or more and not to use plastic tipped bullets in it. I was using a .243 and the moderator was marked to be used up to 6.5mm and at that size you would be expecting to use bullets heavier than this.
I have sold it and since ordered the new atec maxim with steel baffles and aluminium body.
It weighs more I believe about 370g for the 4 baffle version but is cheaper than the cmm4 was.
It's arriving on Friday so looking forward to testing it out.
