Very short memory on this site...I made this very same point last week and also included my own employment history. When i mentioned how shocked i was at the macho attitudes and how bad some of the training was i got shouted down
There are many ex-forces 'professionals' who end up in firearms teams and soon leave in dispair.
2 incidents spring to mind:
1. Transporting one very bad boy up to the City of London and then taking him up in the secure lift to the courts. In the lift i could here an annoying clicking noise which i discovered was my partner flicking his safety off and on due to boredom!
2. On a range when some other squaddies were using the LAW practice units which replaced the explosive head with a solid metal dart. One didn't fire and the numptie tossed it into the trench in-front of the firing pitts. Upon cleaning up, the idiot retrieves the LAW and proceeds to carry it towards the rest of the guys, Law fires and the **** hit the fan.
