Advice for a thicko on 30-06 Hornady

Hi All,

i'm hoping the SD folk can help me out... I have used Hornady Custom 180gr in my 30-06 for some time and have a specific ballistic turret to suit from Kenton Industries. I have struggled to purchase more ammunition but at the Stalking Show managed to fill my boots with Hornady Custom International 180gr.
I was assured on the stand they were exactly the same... I contacted Hornady direct and they assured me they are exactly the same bullet BUT run about 50fps slower. I appreciate this will make some difference to ballistics / drop etc but i am not 'learned' enough to understand if this will make a big enough difference for me to worry about and have to order a new turret?
I am not a huge long distance shooter and most of my shooting is below 250m but eager to understand.

Hi,
I would take a look at drop differences using the free Hornady app. Their 4DOF calculator is fantastic and will give you an idea if there is a difference in drops or not. 50fps shouldn’t make too much difference at 600 and less but worth checking with the app

Simple answer is zero using the new ammo then take shots at known distances using the turret & see if the bullet lands within an acceptable distance of the aiming mark - if it does then happy days.

Don’t over think things

at 500m the bullet will drop about 2.5'' more, less at your limit of 250m for 50fps slower , i would do as suggested and run a check then just crack on

I agree with above mate. If it was me i would just got out and shoot it at the distance you want and see where its landing then work out from there. If only shooting out to 250 it shouldn't be to hard
