Evening all,
I did some 5 shot testing yesterday to identify the top point of harmonics on my rifle using a ladder test with different loads. I was using Hornady 140 gr ELDM BHTP and VIHTAVUORI N555 with all cartridge dimensions in SAAMI spec (cartridge OAL 2.8")

I'm interested in this forum's opinion on which speed /SD/ES combination people will think will be most consistent.
The 2609/2625 speed loads are the highest vertical deflection in terms of barrel harmonics but the 2612 speed also looks good.

Not sure why these are shooting so slow (in general per stated reloading manual speeds) but they seem to be accurate enough.
All feedback welcome !
Cheers

With sample sizes of 5 shots, SD isn’t worth bothering about. ES is more useful with such small samples.

Also, as any single 5 shot group can be expected to vary in size by approximately +/- 50% of the long run average (and that's excluding any operator or environmental influences), you can't read too much into the relative dispersions for the samples you currently have.

Personally , I always start with shooting groups ! If it don't shoot I play with the powder charge then when i have that move on to the next etc on to the the end . Now i am talking about Stalking ammo and that's different to punching paper at 1000 yards
IMHO if your building stalking ammo your really just burning up barrels and wasting components . as the weak point might well be you on the day and a 6" group at 300 yards is all any stalker needs in the field

I didnt have access to a chrono when I started loading for the creed. I looked at the Barnes max load data ..worked down 1 grain then worked up half a grain at a time until I saw pressure signs (heavy bolt lift). Fortunately I got 1/4 inch 3 shot groups with 43.5 grains of RS60 in Lapua brass with 120 grain TTSX bullets. I'll chrono at some point but given the charge weight and accuracy Im not really worried about the speed but I reckon it will be pushing the 3000 fps. The key thing is accuracy ... and after all why shouldnt you strive for the best that you can get. If you are happy with 1" groups...stick with factory :)

Is this a Tikka/Sako rifle? They have a reputation for "slow barrels" in 6.5mm.

Really interesting, thank you for spending the time to extract that information and sgaring
