Full plastic Peanut Butter jar. Remove screw top lid, nail lid to tree with inside facing outwards (at about 3 feet off the ground), screw full plastic jar back on lid, now cut the bottom off the jar leaving the contents exposed. Post trail camera opposite. Do this for several days, you might be amazed by what is recorded.
However if nothing recorded or jar still untouched by the end of the second week reyvisit jar and camera site but this time bring some bread and a banana. Slice banana, spread it and PB on bread and eat - delicious.
Repeat as necessary….
You are welcome!

It sounds like you really don’t want or have time to do it. So, either say “no” or get someone in to help you. I have someone who “helps” me, and took him out to a spot with rabbits and pigeons last night and he will be helping me a lot, because I don’t want to. Owner is happy with that.

Alternatively, as has been suggested, try to find the in,out and sit there or
Bunch of mates and do a driven hunt slowly. Push it to the gun. I think that would be my preferred option.

The only other " busy " option, do u know anyone with a drone?
Love or loathe they will cover far more ground .
Or its a sit and wait as Malc said .
Good luck
That’s where I draw the line !

Using that kind of technology just takes the biscuit, if you can’t get off your backside and go figure it out for yourself then you have to question why are you doing it?

The stag will have regular travel lines, find one and wait or create one of your own, they don’t like pushing through cold wet undergrowth any more than you do.
The bonus in creating your own is that deer are curious and will investigate what you have done and will probably find something tasty amongst the brash.
You don’t need to cut back wholesale, just trim back enough to give yourself a bit of a view over as much distance as you can manage.

Thanks again to all those who made really helpful suggestions!

To all those saying I should get someone else to do it: the owner knows me and wants me to do the job. Please accept that.

I'm happy to do it in a way that doesn't require huge amounts of time, and will likely start by checking the entire fence perimeter myself, and then finding the right spot inside to leave out as bait old carrots, apples, etc., as @StephenToast recommended (probably the peanut butter jar too, as per @Foxyboy43 's suggestion). I'll also place one or two camera traps nearby to monitor what's coming by.

If the deer starts visiting the spot, I'll then wait up nearby and shoot it.

SD is such an invaluable resource!!

I appreciate time is a factor for you. For fast results I agree with SD members who advocate gently "driving" the wood towards you, and taking a safe shot if presented. If said beast appears then it is living in there. If no show then it is getting in somehow somewhere. At least you will know. Personally (I have time) I would high seat and wait.

If he OP doesn’t have the time, let someone else who does have the time get on.

Honestly what a load of tosh, moving deer is not a quick and simple way of doing anything to 1 rifle.

I had a similar request with a red hind.

I spent a while looking at satellite images of the plot, and figured out there were a couple small clearings and a few obvious lines with less dense vegetation. I used that to plan a walk through the wood. Let myself in about 2 hours before sunset on a sunny day, and very, very slowly drifted along the route. Often crawled. Found the hind in the largest clearing after an hour. Shot and done.

It can work, if the landscape is very constrained so they can only move in one direction. But it usually doesn’t work…

I have watched one person do it with absolute precision - John Allan at @Moray Outfitting seems to have some sort of magical ability to get roe to go exactly where he wants them to be.

I have watched lots of people mess it up completely.

Make time, - go straight to a spot and sit and wait. Best is 40 minutes before last light and just be silent.

I do have a little Sika stalking on the West coast. Its thick tangled ancient oak woodland, bracken and brambles. There is one spot where I just go and sit. And I am always rewarded. Perhaps not a shootable animal everytime - but just sitting and watching and being for less than hour is very very good for the soul.
This ! ^^^

Me and my mentor get 90% of our fallow the last 40 minutes of light! We use salt licks too

I love the waiting game all worth it in the end
