Fresh back from Bloemfontein after spending 10 days or so wing hunting and messing about with rifles (in the evenings). It was always going to be a great trip and with record goose numbers this was no exception.
Now next year is a special birthday for me so talking to the guys in Bloem i have sketched out a plan for next years trip around the end of May with a weeks wing shooting and a week on safari. The question is what to hunt on safari? The plan is to do the wing hunting around Bloem and the safari on the east coast details not yet provided but the hunting area is due east from Bloemfontein.
Last year i spent a fantastic morning and day hunting Baboon in the mountains and I would like to repeat this for a male. It was a great combination of being tough, some risk without being too concentrated on a single animal and sensibly priced.
I was thinking Baboon, Bush buck, Bush pig Hyena and Jackal. Any other suggestions as to what else to add to my list would be welcome.

My plan is to take my 233 with NV and use whatever else I need whilst I am out there.

caracal & bushpig hunting with hounds amazing experience with the right team ,need to be reasonably fit tho to keep up and get up close and personal.
driven springbok or blesbok culling is great fun and with plenty of shooting.

If you don't have one already go for a vaal rhebok I think you will have to go down to the Eastern Cape for them. The Bedford area had some nice ones the last time I was there. You could also find bushbok and baboon in numbers in that area.

Sounds like a good plan.

I thought goats in the UK had a unique fragrance until I nailed a bushpig - which incidentally took three trips to finally get. I'm just glad I didn't have to skin the thing!

It'll be fun and of course, it's Africa.
