Allopurinol

My father was here today and is a sufferer.
When I offered him some venison steaks to take home he declined saying that they have high levels of ?????? that can bring on an attack.
Therefore I think it is best if you all give me your stalking as quite clearly you can not eat what you shoot.

I too was prescribed Allopurinol for gout.
I have been taking it for the past 18 months, I have lost nearly 4 stone in weight by restricting my intake of carbohydrates and alcohol.
I have stopped taking the tablets and so far seem ok.
It may not have anything to do with gout / medication but I have been drinking lots of water and feel better for it.
I would not want to have to take tablets forever, unless absolutely necessary.
best of luck with your condition.

My understanding of the stuff is that it controls the over production of uric acid if your body is so inclined, and that reduces the likelihood of uric acid deposits in joints.
Also, you start off with only half a tablet for two weeks before starting on the full tablet.
Grant.
