The GMA has seized equipment from nine people caught illegally spotlighting deer in the Mt Lonarch area in three separate incidents during routine patrols over the long weekend.
Officers intercepted three people from Ararat illegally spotlighting, five people from Geelong illegally spotlighting deer and shooting protected wildlife and one person from Keilor East using a salt lick on public land to take deer.
People caught hunting at night, illegally spotlighting deer or failing to correctly store a spotlight, ammunition and firearm in recognised deer habitat during prohibited times may face fines of more than $4,000.
