Deer poachers result

Seems that this forum contains a higher percentage of saints than most others.

Good lads,, keep up the totally moral existence.

Rake Aboot

We have had to put up with a judiciary which for years failed to impose any penalties at all on people brought before them even when caught in flagrante. From the safety of the bench they they made pointed remarks about 'landlords' and carried on supporting the notion of 'one for the pot' even when faced with evidence of commercial scale activity. There was little incentive for the Wildlife Service or Garda to prosecute.
Two friends of mine challenged a gang in Wicklow some years ago and received a severe beating up for their pains.
In recent years the only way to get the Garda to take interest was if there was threatening behaviour with firearms.

In the case quoted in the post, presumably after the guilty finding their previous record , if any, was brought up. This may have had a bearing on the punishment inflicted. Unless the judge was a particularly loose cannon he would not have imposed a penalty that was likely to be overturned on appeal.

Theft is theft, hmm maybe so.

In that case, every self employed person taking cash in hand jobs and stealing money from the govt should serve a driving ban.

They are far worse criminals in my eyes. Stealing money from the NHS.

Don't make the mistake if thinking I condone poaching using a gun, but I think the punishment should suit the crime, consistently

Taking a cash in hand job is very different from committing a firearms offence and endangering life. Maybe if you had ever been shot at by poachers you might take a different view rather than your wet limp-wristed liberal attitude.

Liberal my arse. My political bent lies slightly to the right of Ghengis Khan

How do you know anyone was endangered ? assumption I assume.

errr are we all not on the same side here

anything that will discourage the practise and put a halt to the slaughter that is going on at the moment is a good thing, i for one would be delighted to see penalties such as they got dished out on a regular basis it would soon put a stop to it

I have just had to overcome all sorts of a obstacles to get a firearm certificate for full bore rifles. The police now consider me a fit and proper person to act responsibly with firearms. Others, who have acquired the same permission, who then go on to act illegally will inevitably reflect badly on the rest of us. I cannot say whether the punishment was proportionate...that is up to the judge....and the defendants have rights of appeal if they feel aggrieved. I have always felt the firearm ownership was a priveledge....and should be treated as such.
anyone who acts irresponsibly or illegally with a car would expect punishment....the same.....even more so...applies to firearms.

If you use a motor vehicle to commit crime, you should expect it to be in danger of being taken away from you if you're caught. Makes perfect sense to me. Why leave criminals the tools to carry on doing it? It may well inconvenience them, or even endanger their employment, but it isn't the police, courts or the judge that causes that to happen, it's the defendant! People need to take responsibility for their own actions.

If we allow for a bit of speculation here, it doesn't seem likely that the authorities just came upon these two, out poaching a deer to divide up with the relatives as presents for Christmas!!

Well done to the Courts / Gardai/ and Rangers. Genuine deer hunters have waited a long time for results like these.
Now role on, with their gun and hunting licence (probably never had one) bans, lets hope for a long time.
If they had got two years in jail too, they wouldn't have to worry about the driving licences!

the likes of these guys are out 5 or 6 nights a week lamping everyone else s ground shooting off main roads etc they are commercially poaching and their ilk have been caught early morning with 10 to 15 animals still warm in the back of pick ups.under the wildlife act in ireland the authorities can seize weapons/vehicles even down to their jacket and boots or anything that is deemed to be used in an illegal activity to aid or assist them. convictions are hard come by as the lamper/shooter travels ahead of the picker up who usually travels seperately so as to complicate evidence if caught. one has no gun the other has no deer.so gentlemen if being put off the road for 2 years seems harsh try finding the lock bust off the gate of your wood and finding several grallochs around the ground think again.

It serves the scumbags right and hopefully will be an example and deterrent to all like-minded pratts.

I know those mountains well having legally shot many beasts there with my old friends of the Ardbrae Game Association. [Regretfully many of whom are now deceased.]
Poaching has been rife in that area for a long time and those who pay for their sport there should not incur the

Well done the Garda and their legal system !

HWH.
a few of them are still this side of the daisies and still shooting there. The estate has changed quiet a bit from what you would remember.
