Well that's just flipping marvellous

The weird thing you can get from American lone star ticks which makes you allergic to all red meat for the rest of your life?

Yeah, bad news, turns out UK ticks can spread it too after all

It is affecting more and more people and as you say can also be potentially transmitted by the ticks in the UK and Europe. I have read that it affects about half a million in the USA. There was a recent story here where there are now 165 people, mostly men that have a meat allergi in DK and the causes are being investigated. They can't say for certain it is tick bourne but there is a real concern that it could be.

My boss in Caithnessgot it. Stalked all his life on the ground. Always taking ticks off. Then all of a sudden he couldn't handle meat. Had an anapalectic( my spelling)episode. Needed epipen. As he puts it . He can eat anything from an egg. Fish, Poultry. But nothing from a womb. When I brought clients in from the hill, who were old friends, he couldn't even shake their hands to congratulate them. Again, reckoned to be from a tick. J

That is quite worrying.

I don't have anything as bad as a meat allergy, but I was laid low by blood contact from a Galloway Roe Buck, I am only now just getting my skin something like normal, thanks to a cupboard full of ointments / a uv lamp / & help from a dermatologist at Ysbty Glan Clwyd .... a nightmare lasting almost 12 months. Two of the less icky pics below, at one stage I was wrapped like a burns victim. We only scratched the surface of the natural world and it's effects.

I have known some shepherds get a reaction like that to amniotic fluid at lambing time.
