Altberg boots

Altberg are now being made in China.
So I've been told, the reason being that HM Forces are now tring to issue them to serving Forces members. This is obviously a massive shopping order circa 180,000 pairs of boots (Yes, that's 2 pairs each).

If you are close enough to Richmond, North Yorkshire, pop in, as the OP is in Sussex, that's a fair journey for a pair of boots!

Lowa are equally as good, to be honest, I'd have a pair of Lowa over Altberg, but that's just my personal choice (I have both makes, and prefer Lowa).

Just be careful Lowas or the ones I had are a lot heavier than the Altberg equivalent Handwags are another good option.

I'll agree with that. I have both Altberg and Lowa and both are equally as good with Lowa being heavier. I recently got a pair of Meindl Borneo's and think that I marginally prefer them to the other two.

On the issue of Altberg sizes, I have a pair of 10.5's and 11's both fit equally well. Lowa I need a 10.5 and Meindl has to be 11, so different manufacturers seem to have different views on what size is what. Once you make a decision on a make try some on before you commit to a size and don't forget they all have different width fittings. Ebay is often excellent for finding a bargain once you know what you need to get.
