Alternative to CENS

I know I will probably get a load of stick for having them but I like them when they work.
i have a pair of Cens proflex in ear digital ear defenders but I have had nothing but issues with them crackling and switching off and not working, so any body know of an alternative as I am fed up with the things.
i don’t want the overhead ones as I have a pair of peltor ones for rifle shooting but can’t get away with them when pheasant shooting as I catch them with the gun stock when mounting.
cheers in advance

3M Peltor LEP or EEP

I find the LEPs excellent. much better attenuation (32 to 38dB SNR rather than the CENS' 27dB) than any of the fitted CENS models and the added advantage of rechargeable Li-ion batteries.

I have bought the EEP’s that Alan has linked to. I use them for shotgun shooting and rifle shooting.

I chose that model because I have no need for the charging facility and saves over £150. If I need to charge overnight and I’m in the wilderness I will use a power bank like those for mobile phones.

I also have the EEP's. Hard to fault them. Charge lasts for ages, they don't get in the way of mounting a shotgun which is what I mostly use them for. I have never investigated the little wind deflector things that are evidently available but I should really as my only complaint is that you do get wind noise when it is blowing a bit. Not a deal breaker really and generally speaking I have found them really good at amplifying stuff I need to hear while knocking out the bangs from the Browning. They do what they are supposed to for not too much money. Nice little carry case which is really really sturdy and hardcore. Charging easy from USB.

Hi what's the difference between the LEP and the EEP is it volume control
The spec. looks the same...they both have 3 volume levels...the only difference appears to be the case and charging system. The EEPs have a case/charging station and are charged via USB. The LEPs have the same, but the case also has the added facility for 3 AA batteries which allow you to charge on the go...

I have never used the battery option, the Li-ion batteries last 14 hours and can be charged up overnight or in the car.

I guess it is worth saying that a key thing about the 3M Peltor LEP or EEPs is that it is important to get the right foam tip for inserting into your ear as one size does not fit all and the ones it ships with may not suit you. So the thing to do is experiment with a few different types and sizes until you get something that works for you. Many people who dislike them seem not to be willing to put in the 20 minutes of effort required to try a few different foam ear tips and I guess there is maybe a 20% chance that the tips they ship with will be a perfect fit for you.

I bought some eep type last week from RS and am very pleased. Mine came with four different pairs of tips and it took a few mins with each to find the right pair for me, as ones which felt comfy right away began to ache after a few mins. The grey cone shaped were best in the end. Then you can buy more of them as you need them. I’m going to use the stutzen more for stalking from now on and decided to look out for my hearing.

i recommend them, for the price they are excellent.

For me too.

If you are likely to be wearing a face or headnet then it is worth getting the cord for the earplugs (TEP-CORD):
3M PELTOR Replacement Cord

As with something rubbing against the plugs, occasionally they can work loose, so a cord is worth it for peace-of-mind.

They also need to be seated quite deep ie small earbuds

Peltor LEP-100’s.... bloody brilliant with a cens mino tip on the end

More info and links in here.....(amongst others)...

I charged mine ready for the season the other week and there’s been no degradation of the mino tips since they were put away at the beginning of March.

I posted this on a similar thread couple of months ago.....

I use cens mino tips on mine and reckon they’re better and more durable than the grey malleable ones that come in the box.... tried those up front and they got manky after a day of putting them in, taking them out between drives when loading.
I put a link to the mino tips in the original thread but I’ve just clicked on that and got the dreaded 404 Page not found, so this is the new link....
