Ammo flight case

depends where you are going and how many rounds you are taking. If going to SA it will need to be in a separate locked box not in your checked in bag. A small ex military ammo box padlocked is as good as anything unless you have an existing shotgun ammo box which is what I use for overseas trips and add in knife, cleaning kit torch/batteries etc etc Otherwise I have in past just used a cheapo cash box and put in in my hold luggage kitbag eg heading highlands

I bought one of these, great value, will hold ample ammo circa 100 rounds if needs be, airline approved and not too bulky.

Won't go far wrong with a dinky Peli case and some 20 round MTMs inside - unless the airline insist on 'manufacturer's packaging', in which case the MTMs also work if you handload. 
I have the Trifibre one linked above and found it too bulky, so have a smaller Peli job that will hold 60 rounds.

it's the Peli 1150 - just right to take 3 x MTM J-20 Large Rifle (9.3x62) cartridge boxes. Found mine for a few quid on Eblag as I guess it's not your common-or-garden laptop or iPhone size.

I bought a Peli-Storm iM2050 from here: https://www.waterproof-cases.co.uk/product/peli-storm-im2050-case/ (The company here was linked to further up and their service is top-notch). They can supply combi locks which fit the cases. I am a long time abuser of Peli cases, but prefer the catches on Peli-Storm
I bought the foam filler too. If you pull a chunk of it from the middle, you are left with a protected void which will accept 5 x cardboard manufacturer's boxes of ammunition. (In my case, Norma.)
Even if I am carrying homeloads, I still put them in 'the original manufacturer's packaging' to avoid time-consuming questions for an overly officious airline employee.

Have a look on E Bay, there are many just as good as any Peli case at less than half the price.
I have two, an Orange one, came complete with pick and pluck foam and with my picking and plucking can take four boxes of 30-06 ammo in the manufacturers boxes. Cost around £30.
I also have a slightly smaller black one, again supplied with pick and pluck foam and with my picking and plucking can take three boxes of .308 in their manufacturers cartons. Cost around £20 -ish.
Each have double flip catches and two holes to take padlocks. Each has a couple of proud ridges around them to absorb any crushing mishaps, each is water and air tight. The orange one had an air pressure port but as I am not likely to use that I used araldite to seal it.
I reckon either of the two would pass any Peli test of durability.
I believe the manufacturers purpose for each case was to protect photography equipment or delicate instruments.
On each of them I have drilled a small hole in a bit of the buffer ridge to take a wire cable and dog tag with my mobile No engraved on including the UK code just in case it ever went astray during transit.

I've done that as well, using a small metal cash box from Smiths, until last year ;-(
Last year I flew to Hungary with easy jet with the locked cash box inside my gun case as advised by EasyJet T&Cs.
However coming back, the customs decided it was not allowed and had to be in another case, by which time my hold case was already gone.
Luckily one of the other guys had been caught like me before so had a separate ammo box big enough to take mine so he kindly put mine in with his and returned it back in UK. The flight T&Cs state that each persons ammo has to be separate and is forbidden to be doubled up ???
I must admit I travel/have travelled, with ammo quite a bit and no trip/rules have been the same very often.

I strongly recommend that all ammunition carried is packed inside manufactures’ packaging. The reason being that the ICAO regulation for the carriage of dangerous goods allows up to 5 Kg (AUW) of sporting ammunition without having to complete the DGN airway bills.
However, this dispensation is dependent on the ammunition being of HD 1.4S and UN Ser 0012 or 0014.
By not having it in manufactures’ packaging means that it has never been tested to meet these standards.
The carrier (airline) or handler (airport staff) can legally refuse to take your ammunition if it cannot be proved that it does not meet the criteria.

My goodness have I been lucky !!
For about the last 15 years I have been carrying individual rounds packed in my little red tin cash box, packed with a cloth liner so they don't rattle and for most of that time in my hold luggage with no problems at all.
Mind you I have only been doing it for three or four trips each winter so there is the chance that if I travelled more the law of averages would kick in and I may come unstuck.
There was one incident when I didn't use my little red tin box and just put three packs of ammo in my hold luggage and the BA flight was held up while half the airport staff argued about the method it should have been packed. That incident I have reported here when it happened because it was like something out of a Carry on Film. It was sorted that time by the mini bus driver suggesting they wrap it in something and hand it to the Pilot, She took a Poly bag from somebodies dry cleaned uniform, wrapped it round and round and taped it tight with cello tape then took it away only to be given back to me by the steward on the plane when I boarded !!
Having recently bought a dedicated ammo box to use I am now expecting someone to suggest that I have an extra piece of luggage and be charged accordingly.

Nice to know as i was intending on taking reloaded ammunition. Do they go as far as to check the case make? If i were to stick 40 handloads in Norma boxes but the brass i used was Lapua for instance, do you think they will clock it?
