I have just returned rom a trip to Croatia, I had to use Turkish Airlines as no other airline from my area would carry my Firearm.
It was a long winded flight via Istanbul with a two hour wait for the last leg to Zagreb.
When I booked the flight last month I had to pay £308, 95 for my flight and £278.00 extra for my rifle and ammo.
On the way out the check in desk had no record of my firearm being paid for so I had to pay another £144 to take it with me.
Coming back I was charged 166 euros for my firearm and 166 for my ammo, I queried it but was told there was no record of me having paid already.
The cost of the ammo to be carried back was way over the top of the cost of the ammo in the case and this time it was a very small case as it only contained 30 rounds going out and less coming back.
So in total to take and bring back my rifle and ammo cost me a total of £711,28

That is without the cost of my seat so it turned out to be a very expensive trip so far.
My trip to Turkey in January they only charged me 80 euros to bring my ammo back so it would appear they make the rules up as they go along.
I have queried it with Turkish airlines customer service but got nowhere so far.
I have booked a further two trips to Turkey in the new year so I can see any left over ammo being wasted in the mountains before I come back
