Wapiti ammunition or other premium ammo

I have to use a factory copper round on my forestry permission. As that stalking is interwoven with my other permissions I have been generally using factory copper rounds. This is in .308Win. I have been using Federal 150 gr. copper. This has performed okay. It does the job. However, the groups I am getting are not optimum-1.5 to 2 inches. And then there is the odd flier. I have to try a more premium brand of ammo. Have any on you used the Wapiti UK made rounds? I have used Vor-Tex with Barnes bullets but there is limited availability. I accept paying more for ammo is a small price to pay for more consistency and positivity in shooting, so I will not quibble about the cost.

Sounds like Wapiti is worth a try. Thanks for your experiences.

I have now switched to a HIKmicro Alpex 4k, and I can zero to differing rounds. I have yet to do it, but this means I can reload again for my other land that does not require factory ammo and remember to switch the zero on the scope.

Maybe the Wapiti can solve my intermittent misfire problem too. If the Federal cases are too short, they could light strike. I have heard too of primers being set too deep and this causing a misfire too.

Wapti ( Palo Tech Ltd) appears not to have got their ammunition classified by the HSE competent authority so it is no different to any ammunition you load at home if you took some to Birmingham proof house.

If they or other u.k. ammunition manufactures are not listed in the VCA dangerous goods packaging database then they will not be able to get the ammunition classified by the HSE so are not legally able to transport it.
Unless they have used a competent authority outside the U.K.

Most just think so long as the proof house tests ammunition they can sell it via shops to the end user, which is incorrect. The classification process is legally mandatory the proof house testing voluntary.

So likely wapti is just ”home” loaded ammo, unless they can provide the purchaser a valid packaging authorised mark.

I have experience of Wapiti, Sako Blade, Winchester and Hornady GMX. Accuracy is good with the exception of Winchester which threw 3” groups 🤦🏼‍♂️ terminal performance is topped by the Blade with wapiti/GMX equal second. Pricing is, in order, Blade, GMX, Wapiti and Winchester isn’t really worth talking about.

I just have to give the new ammo a try, maybe two versions and see what my rifle likes.

And get back to reloading using the HIKmicro facility to have multiple zero's maybe colour coding them with different reticles to not mix them and be positive.

I’ve been using Barnes X Bullets for over 30 years. The first X bullets were flat sided with no groves, Barns recommended to have a spotlessly clean barrel when shooting the original flat sided bullet. Spotless as in absolutely no copper fouling in the barrel. I followed their advice and it worked like a charm. I use the TTSX Barnes bullets now but still shoot them from a spotless barrel. The charm is still there. You might try a good barrel cleaning, can’t hurt.
