An article which I enjoyed...

"Calibres that can punch holes in history". Great line! Good article, thanks for sharing.

I had copied exactly that same line ready to paste - a quite marvellous turn of phrase from an exceptional writer.

I also like his description of climbing the Hill, that surely resonates with anyone who's stalked in Scotland:

And then you reach the top and breathing is less like sword-swallowing and you look up from your feet for the first time in an hour and it just takes your breath away all over again.

I've not stalked Letterewe but have climbed the hills around Loch Maree, and his description certainly does justice to the magnificent scenery of that region.

I missed this article the first time around, so thank you Dalua for bumping it again, even if it was prompted by the sad news of AA Gill's death. So much of the article echoes my own thoughts on stalking in Scotland.

I have never smoked but this comment from him made me roar with laughter.
I bum-sucked daily 50 of the little darlings down to their tight brown bottoms.
RIP to a master of words.

Cleverly written with wit and understanding. Can thoroughly recommend "Amongst the Deer" by Duff Hart-Davis for similar tales.
