Angus Guns and Tackle are to close the door at the end of the month.

Despite it being up for auction, I do wonder if it has a viable future now 🤔😥

I was aware they were trying to sell it as a going concern a while back, but I guess there aren't many folk ready to dive in with the money at the moment. I believe the present owners are aiming to retire.

It seems to me more and more that RFDs are farmers who build a suitable building and sell mainly slabs of shotgun ammo and a few guns and rifles. In rural places mainly. Perhaps similar to days of old when that was done by your local hardware shop. The farmers can carry on farming and open a few hours on a few days or when their mobile rings they can arrange to meet folk at their gun room/building.

I guess that may be the way forward. Overheads will be less and it's one way farms can diversify, which is what farms need to do today we're told. They really don't need to carry stock that folk more and more buy online and so large stock levels of slow moving stuff doesn't tie up money.

But, as I and others have said before on here, use your local shop or say goodbye.

Reminds me of a certain shop in Purley (Surrey) back in the day that sold everything one might need for the garden, small holding or farm. For years after it became something far less, a seriously professional and imposing sign hung above the shop front proclaiming the sale of Eley Cartridges.

There used to be a great ironmonies in Biggar that was very similar. I used to buy 'GP Turbo' cartridges for 10p each. They'd pack them into a paper bag from a large cardboard box. I usually had half a dozen rabbit snares from them at the same time. I think the shop's still there, but I'm damned if I can remember what it was called 🤔

Edit: I remembered! Robert Boa's.

I've known a few like that. They stick at it for 4 or 5 years then shut down.
