Animal charities full to overflowing

Never underestimate people's utter stupidity.

We had a friend a year or so ago who (against our advice) mated their unremarkable neurotic JR type bitch to another completely unremarkable mutt. Neither bad dogs in their own right, but both of which should've been separated from their knackers at birth.

The pups were advertised as 'Jackerpoos' (don't get me started, seriously) at £800 apiece, and were sold before the litter was even born . . . . . .

There's just no cure for stupidity - OR - A fool and his money are soon parted! :banghead:

The problem is the dogs in the pound for the most part are not fashionable (frenchie’s, cockers, fox red labs) dogs are now a status symbol and not just a companion...🙄

I know of several people who have all of a sudden ended using with their dogs producing litters....how convenient..🙄

I will say, we got a springer spaniel around 10 months ago after loosing our last lab after 16 years; however I explained clearly I would not pay over the odds for a spaniel (to me that is over £600-£800....people charging the inflated rates and raping all they can out of it are simply greedy in my opinion. I did not go to the pound as we had looked on the websites for the two local cat and dog homes and all seemed to have behavioural issues or be older dogs which are not ideal when you have kids.

In the closest city here (Aberdeen) we also seem to have an abundance of land sharks at the pound...I mentioned on here before - the city council spent a fortune replacing parts as the morons were buying land sharks and training them to bite into kids among bases....and these are not dogs I want around my kids or even my wife. I would take a harder line; license dogs and euthanise any dogs that were outside of this and fine the owner heavily and apply ban from owning animals if they are caught outside of the laws.

Dogs Trust have 150,000 dogs waiting to be taken in....
On a separate note - we had a monthly donation to Dogs trust...for a fair while where we received updates on two dogs we sponsored. (One per child) We were in one specific location and my kids wanted to visit said dog, so we contacted them to be told we could not....it’s not allowed apparently...I pressed them on this and got no answers so explained the donations would be stopped. I now do not believe the dogs existed at all.

EDIT - just asked my wife and the dog was called “Eric” and was in the Ballymena branch apparently...and the reason she was given was that “Eric didn’t like visitors” but we were told we could send bags of dog treats to him....erm...no...thanks.

So how can people justify £3000+ for a puppy when you can get one for nowt ?

Not exactly true everywhere. We lost our dog of 13 and a half years a few months ago.
I started looking straight away but my wife can't bear the thought of a replacement just yet.
I have been looking in the usual places, notice boards in pet shops and Vets but nothing, however I have looked at the net and winced when I saw the prices being asked so that was a definite no no :(
Our local Dogs trust doesn't seem to have anything except advertising for donations so the search goes on.

I know of a lady locally that paid £3,200 for a working cocker a few months ago...nothing that special in its lineage....absolutely crackers! But you can be sure she is letting everyone know! (Status symbol) 🙄

An elderly (though fit and healthy) live next door. They lost their 'Westie' aged 14 last year. This was their second one whilst living next door, each had been loved and given a good life. They would love another but couldn't afford the prices being asked. A 'horsey' friend of ours has a 'Westie'. She had decided to have the bitched 'lined' so me thought, mates/friends 'n' all, I would ask on our neighbours behalf, maybe get a 'more reasonable' price.....not a chance ! That litter of 6 were all sold before birth @ £3500.00 apiece...!!!😳😱 Utter madness, but who could blame them !? So a good home still goes begging next door !
I lost my previous dog almost 5 years ago so not expecting having to look for another anytime soon. It will be interesting to see if some kind of sanity has been restored in another 6-8 years when I have to seek, what will most likely be, my last 'shooting companion'......😱 f#$k me.....how on earth did I get here !😳😏

*kids swing bases.....(not sure how auto correct got “among” from that! 🤔)

I’ve known of a few people that have been refused dogs from so called animal shelters. Two couples in particular are near neighbours to me, own nice houses in the country with 14 and 25 acres respectively. The one couple were in their 70’s so deemed to old, the other couple ain’t had a dog before so hot told they need to buy a puppy from elsewhere to gain experience!! Beggars belief🙄 no wonder people are importing from places like Romania etc.....

One word for that Fraud.

Many years ago I went down the road of RSPCA (don’t even get me started) and various other rehoming charities. Springer rescue wouldn’t give me a young dog, because it might not be proven with children. I found them to be rather insulting with various comments they made.
The fact that my hobby was shooting made some of them seem to think I couldn’t/wouldn’t give a dog a good home.
I did rehome a spaniel in the end, but privately from the local pub landlady.
Now I am sorry but those in the shelters can stay there for me, I can’t deal with the bull that accompanies it.

Responsible breeders of pure bred dogs are in agreement to refrain from matings as the buyers are not buying for the right reasons. As for prices i am not encouraging them.

Wonder what’s gonna happen if the taxman cottons on and realises people are able to take £30,000 cash for a decent sized litter?
If someone does 3-4 litters in a year should they be vat registered ?

A couple of years ago I went to numerous GSD rescues looking for a a second GSD, already having one and being experienced with the breed. I was refused by numerous rescues, two of which I voluntarily worked for training/rehabilitating their dogs to make them more homeable, the reason quoted every time was because I did not have a six foot fence. My then current GSD used to easily clear six foot walls. No wonder people end up buying puppies or importing.
The same rescues would rehome GSD’s with people with no dog experience and elderly adopters as long as the fence criteria was met, it really beggars belief.
A further issue was that none of them would re-home bred to work breeds to a working home, not even the services, so would keep them in Kennels for, sometimes, years, Crazy world.
