Another COVID knife

Maybe a bit late to the COVID knife making party, but thought I would share my efforts anyway.

First one was ground out an old stainless kitchen knife I had lying around. The handle is a bit of something I found in the firewood store. I had a half thought to make it a skinning knife but not had the chance to try it for that yet. So far it's been mostly used in the kitchen.

Number two was intended as a stalking knife. Being new to stalking I would be interested in any thoughts on the design. The blade is 1080+ (80CrV2) 2.3mm thick. Convex grind and hardened to 61 Rockwell by Clarke Knives (thanks Graham). Although 1080+ is meant to be very easy to heat treat, I figured I had spent so long making the thing (grinder, handheld belt sander and a ton of filing!) that I didn't want to mess it up.

The handle is a bit of English Elm I got off ebay for a tenner and finished with Tru-Oil. But my favourite bit is the pins. They're concentric brass tubes with an optical fibre through the middle and alternating stainless and optical fibre rods between the two brass tubes. The effect is really interesting- sometimes the glass looks black and other times it takes on the colour of whatever is behind it or looks kind of three dimensional. Took a few attempts to get it right but very pleased with the result.

Now its on to the next one. I think I have around 8 hours in those bevels already. Ahh well, it will be therapeutic!

Nice. Did you make the mosaic pins or buy them in like that?

Edit: Just read you made them. Good job. :thumb:

Thanks all 👍

I just realised the pins aren't all the same- the one at the back is an earlier version with brass rods and the front two are stainless. Nevermind eh. It's a design feature now.
