Another good Rut :-)

Out last night again, the 5th time in the last 4 weeks. Despite it still being 24 degrees at 1900 there was no sign of the rut. Just 5 deer seen, 3 bucks a doe and a kid. Very quiet.

First evening of action for me this year was 20th July. It was hot, sticky and the action was full on. Lots of chasing, a great spectacle to enjoy. On 28th the temperature had dropped, the wind picked up and it was very quiet, same on 2nd August.

8th August it was hot and humid, a 27 degree evening and all full on again. More chasing and plenty of action.

So in Wiltshire I think they had probably read the book and taken note of the dates. Started on 20th July, finished by 15th August. A classic year.

Roe more or less done until the Does come in. Time to go take a look at the Fallow...

I had a good season on the bucks, a couple of interesting heads for myself, a probable gold for my buddy Guy and a great stalk with @J.kerslake where we tried to call a buck but he was more interested in the doe he’d seen. Worked around to get back on to him and tried to coax him to a shootable position, had a young buck come charging in through the hedge with our boy chasing him off and finally in shootable position for Jack to drop him right on last light at around 140 yards. One to remember for both of us!

Completely missed the rut here. Absolutely no idea when it happened, or even if it really did. Seen one adult buck since early June. All through July there were does everywhere, but not a sign of a buck.

Me too in Wiltshire! Was wondering whether the increase in humidity would bring about a resurgence but a colleague out with a trainee last night saw little, no sign of rutting and didn't take

Couple weeks ago walking the dogs on the common, carrying the thermal (new) picked up a doe and the buck along with a fawn in the tree/bush line, watched, then gave the thermal to the missus who said he just mounted her, tried to grab the thermal back to witness the event and sure enough ,;;'; Forgot to use the record function?

BC.

Despite the weather and early start on harvest, the usual decent rut here in Hampshire. 1st week Aug always seems to be the best. Nice malform taken early on, the first buck that I saw chasing and came to the call. Lots of day time rutting too. Certainly a spectacle to watch.

Not seen much on my permissions but I went to visit a friend down a long farm track and followed a pair back up. He had his nose firmly where a gentleman would never go in public and took no notice of my car all the way.
